Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House)

Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House)

The day we visited the Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), the heat was intense. Perhaps due to the recent rise in temperatures or the improved reservation system, reserving a same-day ticket online is now possible, a convenient option for last-minute visitors.

At 4:30 pm, after visiting a nearby art gallery, we finally arrived at the Blue House (Seochon, Seoul).

To get there, we followed the tree-lined path leading to Chunchumun Gate, where signs politely guided us through the entrance process.

Even in the sweltering heat, the number of visitors was impressive. We booked our tickets online in the morning, but tickets can also be purchased at the information booth outside the main gate.

After a quick security check of our belongings and tickets, we were granted entry into the Blue House grounds.

Nestled at the base of Bukak Mountain, the Blue House is surrounded by lush greenery and stunning natural beauty.

As we strolled along the scenic walkway, it was easy to forget that we were in the heart of Seoul. The peaceful atmosphere provided a stark contrast to the bustling city beyond its gates.

Stepping inside the main building, we were greeted by a grand staircase reminiscent of those found on luxury cruise ships.

Brochures containing detailed information about the Blue House restoration project were available for visitors to browse.

To the left of the entrance, a collection of portraits of former presidents was on display.

One particularly significant artifact was a single blue tile from the original Blue House roof, the very tile that inspired the name "Blue House."

Our tour of the main building concluded on the second floor, where we had a chance to see the official Blue House office.

As we reached the end of our tour, an announcement was made inside the Blue House, signaling that our time was up.

Exploring the main building alone took us about an hour, leaving us with no time to visit the official residence or Chunchu Hall. If you wish to see the entire Blue House complex, I highly recommend arriving before 4:30 pm to allow enough time for a complete tour.

With the remaining time, we chose to sit on the stairs outside the main building, taking in the breathtaking panoramic view of downtown Seoul.

The sight of the city skyline against the backdrop of Bukak Mountain was truly spectacular, making for a perfect way to end our visit.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply looking for a unique cultural experience, the Blue House offers a glimpse into Korea’s past and present in a serene and picturesque setting.
