Located in the center of COEX Mall (Seoul), Starfield Library (Byul-Madang Library) is a vibrant public space where visitors can read, relax, and connect. Opened in 2017, this stunning library features a towering bookshelf measuring 13 meters in height, housing around 70,000 books.

Starfield Library (Byul-madang Library) combines the meanings of Byul, which refers to the "Star", and Madang which refers to a "Public field" that anybody is welcome to use.

Managed by Shinsegae Group, the Starfield Library was built with an investment of over 6 billion won. Additionally, an annual 0.5 billion won is allocated for its maintenance and operations, ensuring that the space remains well-kept and accessible to the public.

"About 70,000 books can be found in its collection. Books about the arts and humanities may be found on the first floor, while books about hobbies and practical subjects, other languages, renowned authors' collections, eBooks, and so on can be found in the basement.
Starfield Library stands out from other libraries because of its specialized magazine section, which houses 600 different publications in its collection."

 

While the library is visually impressive, seating is limited, especially on the second floor, which is accessible via escalator.

However, if you walk past the cafés (Café Billy Angel and Café Arabica), you’ll discover more seating areas that are often less crowded.

There are also extra seating options on the opposite side, including communal tables with electrical outlets, lounge tables, and sofas.

With over 70,000 books, Starfield Library adds another dimension to COEX Mall beyond just shopping and dining.

For convenience, visitors can search for books using the digital catalog available on-site.

True to its name, Starfield Library feels as if books are falling from the sky like stars. The floor-to-ceiling bookshelves create a breathtaking backdrop that is equally mesmerizing during the day and at night.

It’s no surprise that many tourists include Starfield Library in their Seoul itineraries, as COEX Mall is often a stop in various tour packages.

During winter, the library becomes even more magical, with a giant Christmas tree placed at the front, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere.
