ACR (Alegria Coffee Roasters)
One of my favorite cafés in Gwanghwamun (Seoul) is Alegria. Since I always carry my laptop, I naturally prefer cafés with a bit more space over the smaller, cozy ones.
The cafés around Cheonggyecheon in Gwanghwamun all share the kind of vibe I really enjoy, from Terarosa and Blue Bottle to this spot, Alegria.
What I love about Alegria is that it feels a little different from a typical Korean café, it reminds me more of cafés in Japan.
The cups they serve drinks in were so pretty that I really wanted to buy one, but the ones they had for sale looked a bit different. The tumblers, though, were a great size and very stylish.
Menu
The menu is wide-ranging, from coffee and non-coffee drinks to ice cream, seasonal specials, and even a variety of bakery items. I especially love that the bakery options are plentiful.
The seating ranges from large communal tables to single spots and bar-style counters. It’s a great setup for working on a laptop.
I ordered a latte and, since I was starving, a slice of vanilla pound cake too.
I asked for beans without acidity, and they suggested the “Jungle” beans. Once the drinks were ready, they even brought them to my table.
The latte was exactly the kind I love, and the vanilla pound cake wasn’t bad either. The coffee was so good that now I’m curious to try their vanilla latte next time.
The cups were so pretty that I flipped one over to check, it turns out they’re Alegria’s own design.
With such good coffee and a nice selection of bakery treats, I can see myself coming back to Alegria in Gwanghwamun often.
