Mangwon Market
Mangwon Market (Mapo, Seoul) is one of my favorite places to visit. While I enjoy exploring traditional markets across the country, there's something uniquely hip about Mangwon Market compared to the others.
Maybe it was because I visited on a Friday evening, but the market was bustling with energy. Though not as crowded as the weekend, there were still plenty of people, adding to the lively charm that makes traditional markets so special.
Mangwon Goroke
One thing I can never skip when visiting Mangwon Market is the twist donuts. For some reason, they just taste better here than anywhere else!
If you're in the mood for something savory, the market also offers a variety of delicious side dishes.
Mangwon Sikdang
That evening, I wasn’t in the mood to cook dinner, so I headed to Mangwon Sikdang for a bowl of noodles. The eateries in Mangwon Market never disappoint, no matter where you choose to eat, you're bound to enjoy a satisfying meal.
Mangwon Tteok-galbi
One of the market's specialties is Mangwon Tteokgalbi, and as expected, the line was long. However, a helpful guide suggested making a reservation instead of waiting. I wasn’t planning to buy much, so I debated whether to reserve a spot or not... But after coming all this way, I couldn’t just leave empty-handed, so I went ahead and made a reservation.
If you'd rather cook at home, you can also buy the raw meat mixture for 11,000 won per kg.
U-i-lag
Mangwon Dak-gangjeong
I also stopped by Mangwon Dak Gangjeong, my daughter's favorite place, for some crispy sweet-and-spicy chicken.
With so many tempting options at Mangwon Market, deciding what to eat is no easy task!
I also visited one of my favorite gimbap stalls, where the rolls are made fresh to order. Watching the vendor prepare my gimbap right in front of me made the experience even better.
Mangwon Market isn’t just about delicious eats, it’s also a great place to shop.
Even Dalgona, the nostalgic Korean candy, is available. When it was trending, it sold for 2,000 won, but now it’s back down to 1,500 won.
If you’re driving, the Mangwon 1-2 public parking lot is the most convenient option. It offers plenty of space at an affordable rate, and you can even get a discount if you make purchases at the market.
Mangwon Market perfectly blends tradition with modern, hip vibes, making it a must-visit spot for food lovers and shoppers alike. Whether you're here for the signature tteokgalbi, the nostalgic street snacks, or just the lively atmosphere, it's an experience worth savoring.
