JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square
To enjoy a hotel staycation without leaving Seoul, I booked a room at the JW Marriott Hotel in the district of Dongdaemun.
Hotel staycations that focus on delicious meals and rest and leisure are always enjoyable. And since you don't have to go too far out of the city, I think it's a fantastic way to spend a holiday!
This time, we booked an executive room, which is located on the ninth floor. Having a glass ceiling that can be opened or closed is a convenient feature. The view of Dongdaemun at night was the primary factor in my decision to make a reservation.
Room / Executive Lounge / Breakfast Buffet
Making full use of the hotel's various facilities is the key to having a relaxing staycation. It would be good to take advantage of the sauna and pool, but that could take some time. Highlights of a staycation include taking advantage of the hotel's lounge and eating breakfast there.
The view of Dongdaemun was the most breathtaking sight from the JW Marriott Hotel. Dongdaemun and the Shinpyeonghwa building are visible at night through the windows.
The wine service was also something to remember. Hotels in general are friendly, but the JW Marriott in this city stands out. Since it was our anniversary, I specifically requested a room with a nice view as well.
By the way, they also offer a balloon event in the window if you let them know in advance. Make sure to specify that you are celebrating an anniversary when you make your reservation.
Parking
There are a few small bumps in the road leading down to the parking lot. Be wary of people who drive sports cars. I had an experience on my first trip, so I drove my X2 this time. Keep in mind that the turn leading to the parking lot is also somewhat tight.
From the parking lot, you can enter the hotel through this gate.
Here’s where you'll go to check in. As soon as you step off the elevator, the helpful staff will lead the way. We checked in with much anticipation and immediately headed up to our room.
Executive Room (Floor 9)
When you go into the room, the blinds will automatically open, which was a pleasant surprise. Our room was in excellent condition. The room's condition was far better than I had anticipated.
Enjoying a bottle of wine and room service while taking in the sights of Dongdaemun at night sounds like a perfect evening.
The rustling of the duvet on the bed is a sure sign that I've finally checked into the hotel. I often have trouble sleeping due to the pillow, but I had no such problems here.
You can use this tablet to adjust the temperature and turn on the lights.
This sort of snack was contained in an adorable little package.
The ceiling windows contribute to the room's distinctive ambiance.
Bathroom
Like at any other hotel, there is a Nespresso coffee machine.
Executive Lounge (Floor 10)
* Operating Hours: 6:00 - 22:00 / Evening Cocktail: 17:00 - 19:00
Scan your room key at the door to get access.
There are seats by the entrance, near the windows. When you go further inside, you'll find a wide selection of food, wine, and beverages.
Food and drink that pair well together are available in the hotel's lounge, so you can relax in style. Because I enjoy alcoholic beverages, visiting the lounge is always one of my favorite parts.
Create your drink at this bar. There aren't a lot of whiskey varieties out there, but they're still good.
You can also enjoy wine, champagne, and whiskey!
Salad, steak, cheese, and bread. You can get some delicious steak in a tiny bowl here as well. The sauce has the perfect amount of flavor.
For bottled beer, Corona is the best. The clear bottle perfectly brings the joy of a cold beer, in my opinion.
The food is served in such tiny containers, which I find to be very sanitary. In particular, the steak was delicious.
With some whiskey and Corona beer. It feels great to drink alcohol again after a long time. The majority of the dishes were excellent. I liked it more than the Grand Hyatt.
Night view
In the evening, Dongdaemun transforms into a sight to behold. Compared to the Four Seasons Hotel Gwanghwamun, this one has a very unique atmosphere. The open ceiling and proximity to Dongdaemun contribute to a more airy atmosphere.
Room service
After hearing wonderful things about JW Marriott's room service, I decided to give it a try. The large servings and crisp fries did not disappoint.
I have fond memories of the buffet at Tavolo 24, which I visited in April of last year. The in-room dining and lounge cuisine were satisfactory.
Good morning!!
Because of the window ceiling, there is plenty of natural light. Okay, it's time to have some breakfast.
Tavolo 24 (Breakfast)
Western, Korean, and Japanese dishes may all be found on Tavolo 24. The entrance is dedicated to Western cuisine, the center to Japanese cuisine, and the rounded corners to Korean cuisine.
No changes have been made since last April. Even the food was mostly the same.
From the second floor, you will have a great view of Dongdaemun too.
I've brought some of my favorites, including salad, bacon, and sausage. The staff serves complimentary coffee.
That part of the buffet where they have salads, sausages, eggs, and bacon is my favorite.
Keeping the fruit in the fridge is a great idea in my opinion. Especially the melon, all of the fruits tasted incredibly good.
The flatfish sashimi at the Japanese section of this buffet was fantastic the last time I was here. Because it is a morning buffet, there appears to be no flatfish.
I hope to return to Tavolo 24's buffet shortly.

jw marriott dongdaemun square seoul 5star hotel bonvoy
Hello Annie. Both are 5-star hotels, so the service is excellent in both places. It was just that the room service was slightly better than the Grand Hyatt. In terms of location, Dongdaemun Marriott is more convenient to use public transportation such as the subway nearby. There are also many places within walking distance, such as Dongdaemun Market and DDP. On the other hand, the Grand Hyatt is located at Namsan Mountain, the center of Seoul, so you can experience the wonderful night view of Seoul every night. Hope this helps :)
Great review. I’m curious why you liked it better than the Grand Hyatt?
