If you're looking for a hotel staycation in Seoul without having to leave the city, JW Marriott Hotel (Dongdaemun, Seoul) is a fantastic choice. Staycations that focus on great food, relaxation, and convenience are always a pleasure, and the best part is that you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a break.

For this staycation, we booked an executive room on the ninth floor. One of the standout features of the room is the glass ceiling, which can be opened or closed, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. However, the biggest reason for choosing this room was the breathtaking night view of Dongdaemun.

 

Room / Executive Lounge / Breakfast Buffet

A great staycation is all about fully enjoying the hotel’s amenities. While the sauna and pool are tempting, they can take up a lot of time. Instead, the executive lounge and breakfast buffet were our main highlights, ideal for a comfortable and indulgent experience.

The view from JW Marriott Dongdaemun is absolutely stunning. At night, the city lights create a mesmerizing atmosphere, with Dongdaemun visible through the windows.

 

Executive Room (Floor 9)

One delightful surprise was that the blinds automatically opened when we entered the room. The room exceeded my expectations in terms of cleanliness and comfort.

Enjoying a bottle of wine and room service while gazing at the illuminated city skyline made for a perfect evening. I usually struggle with hotel pillows, but here, I had no trouble sleeping at all.

A tablet in the room allows you to control the lighting and temperature, adding to the convenience.

What really set it apart was the ceiling window, which created an open and airy atmosphere.

Executive Lounge (Floor 10)

Accessing the executive lounge is simple, just scan your room key at the entrance. The lounge offers cozy seating, especially near the windows, and a wide selection of food, wine, and other beverages.

As someone who enjoys a good drink, visiting the lounge was one of my favorite parts of the stay. The bar allows you to mix your own drinks, and while the whiskey selection isn’t vast, the options available were satisfying.

They also serve wine, champagne, and whiskey. The food selection includes salad, steak, cheese, and bread. The steak, served in small portions, was particularly delicious, with a perfectly balanced sauce.

For beer lovers, the lounge stocks Corona, which is always refreshing in its signature clear bottle.

Overall, the lounge experience was excellent, even surpassing my previous stay at the Grand Hyatt.

 

Night view

At night, Dongdaemun transforms into an enchanting cityscape. Compared to the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, JW Marriott Dongdaemun has a more open, airy atmosphere, thanks to its proximity to the landmark and the ceiling windows.

 

Room service

After hearing great things about JW Marriott’s room service, I decided to give it a try. The portions were generous, and the fries were perfectly crispy.

Tavolo 24 (Breakfast)

Tavolo 24 offers a diverse breakfast selection, featuring Western, Korean, and Japanese cuisine. The layout is well-organized, the entrance is dedicated to Western dishes, the center area serves Japanese food, and the rounded corner showcases Korean flavors.

My stay at JW Marriott Dongdaemun was nothing short of fantastic. The combination of a well-appointed room, breathtaking night views, excellent food, and a cozy executive lounge made for a memorable staycation.

If you’re looking for a relaxing hotel experience within Seoul, I highly recommend giving JW Marriott Dongdaemun a try.
