Doyajib
Doyajib (Yongsan, Seoul) is a Korean barbecue restaurant I’d like to introduce today.
I live close to Yongsan and frequently pass by this restaurant, but every time I’ve walked by, there’s been a line. I had been holding off on visiting because of the wait, but it turns out that reservations are available for anyone who wants to dine there.
Menu
The interior isn’t very spacious, but it has a cozy feel. We ordered the set for 2-3 people (55,000 won), which included 1 Moksal (pork neck), 2 Samgyupsal (pork belly), and Walnut-stuffed Ssamjang with herring roe.
Once you place your order the side dishes arrives and the mushrooms in the center were especially amazing!
Walnut-stuffed Ssamjang (seasoning) with herring roe and Rice
The walnut Ssamjang, combined with herring roe, was something I tried for the first time and absolutely loved. While it’s usually salty, the nuts balance the flavor, and the herring roe added another layer of deliciousness.
Here’s the best way to eat it: Mix the Ssamjang and herring roe over rice like bibimbap. Despite its salty appearance, the taste is surprisingly mild. The combination of savory, salty, and spicy flavors was irresistible.
Moksal (1 serving) + Samgyupsal (2 servings)
I’ve always loved thick cuts of meat, and Doyajib didn’t disappoint. The meat was in excellent condition, and what made it even better was that the staff grilled all the meat to perfection. The grilling service was one of the best parts of dining here.
Moksal
We started with Moksal (pork neck), which was tender and flavorful.
I usually prefer my BBQ with a sprinkle of salt or some wasabi, and they served a special salt made from ground-up dried pollack. The savory taste of the pollack complemented the salty flavor of the meat perfectly.
Samgyupsal
Samgyupsal (pork belly) is my personal favorite over moksal, and it was just as satisfying here.
What really stood out was that every side dish was delicious. It's rare to find a restaurant where every single side dish is great, but at Doyajib, it’s a reality. The barbecue, alongside the sides, is still on my mind.
Mok-i mushroom
One of the side dishes was a special type of mushroom that tasted like pickled onions.
Mul naengmyeon (cold noodles)
I usually prefer Bibim Naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), but on this day, I was craving Mul Naengmyeon (cold noodles in a clear broth), which was highly recommended. It had a distinct sesame oil flavor, which I really enjoyed, especially since I love sesame oil.
I finished every side dish, and the meal left me completely satisfied. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend trying the Korean barbecue at Doyajib!
