Geumdwaeji Sikdang
Geumdwaeji Sikdang is famous as one of the top 3 pork restaurants in Seoul.
It was also selected by the Michelin Guide Seoul for 4 consecutive years from 2019 to 22, and it is difficult to make a reservation as BTS member has been there before. I went there for lunch on a Friday and had to wait.
The restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m., but you can sign up to wait starting at 10:30 a.m.
But even if you sign up at 10:30, you'll still have to wait an hour before the restaurant opens. We signed up at 10:40, waited at a nearby cafe, and received a call from the store at 11:45.
I do not enjoy eating onions or green onions soaked in sauce due to their spicy flavor, however, the green onions in this sauce were not particularly spicy or difficult to eat. Here, the grill is separated into three parts, and briquettes are used!
The meat selection was limited, but the drink menu offered a wide variety of options.
Aside from the skin, we ate every item on the meat menu. Bone Samgyeopsal, Nunkkot Moksal, Deung Moksal, Kimchi-Jjigae (stew), and some Basil.
Snowflakes Moksal (150g per serving) 18,000 won
Bone Samgyeopsal (150g per serving) 19,000 won
Back Moksal (150g) 19,000 won
Pork Kimchi Stew 8,000 won
Basil 5,000 won / Highball Jim Beam 8,000 won
Bone samgyeopsal, Nunkkot moksal and Deung moksal.
Like a butcher's tag, it shows the name of the Pork's cut.
As a meat specialist restaurant, the meat is grilled by expert employees.
Nunkkot moksal 18,000 won
The marbling of pork is pretty good.
The pork should be dipped in salt after it is cooked, as per his suggestion. Due to the excellent quality of the meat, I was pleasantly delighted to find that it was exceptionally juicy.
A wrap of basil the size of my palm has an excellent flavor when paired with meat.
We recommend ordering it and eating it lightly grilled or wrapping it with meat if you enjoy basil, but we understand that some people might not like it due to the strong flavor.
Bone Samgyeopsal 19,000 won
It's pork belly with a bone attached, served with more than two pork belly chunks around the ribs. It was tasty, but I still prefer Nunkkot Moksal.
Deung moksal 19,000 won
The staff advised us to order it when it's available because it's limited and a special portion of pork.
Moksal, especially when sliced thinly and cooked in its oil, has a superior flavor to that of Samgyeopsal. If they have Deung moksal on the menu, just order it.
Jim Beam Highball 8,000 won
Suntory & Jim Beam Highball is another exclusive cocktail menu item. At Geumdwaeji Sikdang, you can experience one of only four functional units in all of Korea.
It tastes quite boring to me. It tasted like water and was not very appetizing. As the ice melted, the flavor changed to that of water. No good for 8,000 won.
And the Kimchi-Jjiagae(stew) was another letdown. Even though I wasn't expecting much from the Kimchi stew, it was nevertheless disappointing.
Mushrooms were wrapped in this silver foil and were delicious with a satisfying chew.
We ordered a few more servings of Bone samgyeopsal and Nunkkot moksal.
For a very long time, I have not had the pleasure of eating delicious barbecue that had been cooked over briquettes. The ability of the staff also contributed to the meal's success.
On Friday, I waited for an hour, but I have no idea how long the wait usually is. Here is a restaurant serving Nunkkot moksal that has been recognized by Michelin.
