Hongtak Mokpojip (with Kong-guksu)

Located near Cheonggu Subway Station, Hongtak Mokpojip (Sindang, Seoul) is a cozy eatery known for its simple yet nostalgic menu. During lunch, you can enjoy Kong-guksu (cold soybean noodles), Bibim noodles, or Yeolmu noodles. For dinner, advanced reservations are required for specialties like Bossam (boiled pork) and Samhap (fermented fish with Bossam).

The restaurant recently gained popularity after being featured on Seong Si-Kyung YouTube, which is how I discovered it. After trying it myself, it’s now one of my favorite spots for cold soybean noodles.

Hongtak Mokpojip is an old establishment with limited seating. The interior accommodates about eight people, while another six to eight can sit outside. Because of the small space, diners often share a large table.

Due to the restaurant's growing popularity, the lunch menu has been streamlined to focus on its best-selling dishes: Kong-guksu and Bibim noodles. Baek-ban (rice with side dishes) is no longer served, and the dinner menu remains reserved for pre-ordered Bossam and Samhap.

As soon as I sat down, the owner promptly served me a bowl of Kong-guksu. Despite the steady stream of customers, the noodles were prepared quickly and arrived garnished with a sprinkle of black bean powder on top.

The dish is meant to be enjoyed unseasoned, though you can add a pinch of salt or pair it with the Yeolmu kimchi provided.

The soup itself is smooth, creamy and the addition of black bean powder enhances the nutty flavor, creating a rich yet subtle profile.

The noodles are soft and perfectly complemented by the refreshing Yeolmu kimchi. As someone who doesn’t typically enjoy overly sweet or salty dishes, I found this to be a perfectly balanced meal.

Eating the Kong-guksu at Hongtak Mokpojip brought back childhood memories of sitting in front of a fan on hot summer days, slurping cold soybean noodles. It’s a dish that’s both simple and comforting, with a flavor that feels timeless.

If you’re a fan of Kong-guksu or curious to try it, this is the place to go. The combination of its nutty broth, tender noodles, and crisp Yeolmu kimchi creates a refreshing and satisfying meal that’s perfect for summer.
