Ruby Tteokbokki (Apgujeong)
If you’re in Apgujeong Rodeo, Ruby Tteokbokki (Apgujeong, Seoul) is a must-visit for authentic Korean snack dishes. Known for its Saeukkang Tteokbokki, Twigim (fried food), and Gimbap, this eatery has even been featured on a popular Korean cuisine TV show. With creative twists on traditional Korean street food, Ruby Tteokbokki offers a unique and flavorful dining experience.
Menu
Saeukkang Tteokbokki is the signature dish here, and the Sausage Gimbap is also a customer favorite. To save 500 won and enjoy some Twigim (fried food), I decided to go with the Blue Set for 18,000 won.
Blue (set menu) 18,000 won
The blue set includes Saeukkang Tteokbokki, Modeum Twigim (assorted fries), and Sausage Gimbap. The set also came with Oden soup (fish cake soup), which featured a rich shrimp flavor that perfectly complemented the other dishes.
Saeukkang Tteokbokki
The Saeukkang Tteokbokki lived up to its reputation as the house specialty. The dish features chewy rice cakes in a deliciously spicy broth, topped with crispy, tiny fried shrimp. The shrimp added a rich, seafood-forward flavor that elevated the dish, making it both hearty and satisfying. The balance of spice and the shrimp's crunchiness made this dish a standout.
Sausage Gimbap
One of the highlights of the meal was the Sausage Gimbap, which featured genuine German sausage. The combination of the sausage’s meaty, hotdog-like flavor with the Korean gimbap was surprisingly delightful. The fusion of textures and flavors worked exceptionally well, making it a customer favorite for a reason.
Modeum Twigim (assorted fries)
The Modeum Twigim offered a variety of crispy delights, including: squid, potato, and seaweed rolls. While all the fries were well-executed with a satisfying crispiness, the fried onion stood out as exceptional. Its strong onion flavor was enhanced by the shrimp's umami richness, creating a unique and memorable taste.
Located near Apgujeong Rodeo’s main street, Ruby Tteokbokki is more than just a snack bar—it’s a symbol of the area, known for its creative takes on classic Korean street food. The dishes were flavorful and satisfying, but the overall taste leaned slightly toward fast food, which might not appeal to everyone. However, for its unique Saeukkang Tteokbokki and convenient location, it’s easily one of the best spots in Apgujeong for a tteokbokki fix.
