Samcheongdong Sujebi
Our plan for the day was to hike Mount Inwang. So, we visited a popular eatery near Gwanghwamun and Samcheong-dong that I had missed on my previous visit to the Samcheong-dong area.
Took a bus for a day trip to Seoul.
If you take bus No.11 from outside the kt (gwanghwamun) building and get off at the stop labeled "Samcheong-dong Community Service Center," you will see this line in front of the restaurant.
We rushed to the back of the line for Samcheongdong Sujebi.
The staff said that we might have to wait for up to 30 minutes. Although I was starving, I must admit that standing in line for a renowned eatery was something I had to do.
MENU
It is not allowed to take pictures of anything other than the food and menus at this restaurant.
Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup), Ongshimi, Gamja-jeon (Potato Pancake), Pa-jeon (Green Onion Pancake), Nokdu-jeon (Mung Bean Pancake), Jjuggumi (Octopus), Dongdongju, etc. Simple dishes, but a very popular spot recognized by Michelin Guide Seoul.
I've been walking past here on every trip to Samcheong-dong but never stopped to try it until now.
There are kimchi made from cabbage and yeolmu (young radish), both of which are stored in separate stainless steel containers. You are free to eat as much as you can.
The delicious kimchi increases the expectations of the Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup).
Sujebi (x2) 18,000 won
While Gamja-jeon (potato pancakes) and Dongdongju (rice wine) sounded delicious, I was only able to order Sujebi before hiking Mt.Inwangsan.
The good smell of the Gamja-jeon (potato pancakes) wafts over to me from the kitchen, where I was sitting. What a delicious smell….
Sujebi (hand-pulled dough) was filled with a clean anchovy soup in a pot and had no fishy aftertaste.
It has been in the same location since it first opened in 1982.
The flavor was perfect, you don't need any further seasoning.
Yeolmu kimchi was my preferred option over cabbage kimchi on that day.
There are always people waiting in line to eat at this popular restaurant, even on weekday afternoons. We realized why they kept getting picked by Michelin Guide Seoul year after year.
