Samcheongdong Sujebi

Samcheongdong Sujebi

Our plan for the day was to hike Mount Inwang. Before that, we decided to visit a popular eatery near Gwanghwamun and Samcheong-dong.

To get there, take bus No. 11 from outside the KT building in Gwanghwamun and get off at the "Samcheong-dong Community Service Center" stop. You'll immediately notice the line in front of the restaurant.

We quickly joined the back of the line for Samcheongdong Sujebi (Samcheong-dong, Seoul), eager to try their famous dishes.

The staff informed us that the wait could be up to 30 minutes.

Despite its simplicity, this spot is so popular that it’s been recognized by the Michelin Guide Seoul.

The restaurant offers two types of kimchi; cabbage kimchi and yeolmu (young radish) kimchi both stored in separate stainless steel containers.

While the Gamja-jeon (potato pancakes) and Dongdongju (rice wine) sounded tempting, we decided to stick to ordering Sujebi before heading off to hike Mount Inwangsan.

The Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup) came in a pot filled with a clean, flavorful anchovy broth that had no hint of a fishy aftertaste.

The flavor was absolutely perfect, no additional seasoning was needed.

This restaurant's popularity is undeniable, with a steady line of people waiting, even on weekday afternoons. After experiencing the quality and flavors, it became clear why they continue to be featured in the Michelin Guide Seoul year after year.
