The Sancheong Sutbul Garden (Euljro, Seoul) remains relatively under the radar, likely due to its recent debut. The restaurant, which first opened in the Magok district earlier this year, has quickly gained a loyal following. 

Those who’ve visited all seem to agree on a few things: "The food is absolutely delicious. The lines are already growing longer. Hurry before it becomes impossible to get in. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is exceptionally helpful."

This spot piqued my interest, especially as it was launched by the same team behind Mongtan, a wildly popular barbecue restaurant in Samgakji. Despite my best efforts, I’ve yet to visit Mongtan due to its notoriously long wait times.

Given the team’s history of success, it’s no surprise the Magok location became an instant hit. In September 2023, they followed up with a second location in Euljiro, drawing in even more diners.

The restaurant specializes in black pork sourced from the famed Jirisan (Mountain) region and other delicacies from Sancheong-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do. 

Located in the heart of Hipjiro (a trendy nickname for Euljiro), it attracts crowds, particularly on weeknights and weekends.

Exiting Euljiro 3-ga Station via Exit 11, it was just a short walk past the Noroo Paint Store before the restaurant’s sign came into view. 

Sancheong Sutbul Garden opens at precisely 11:30 am for lunch.

Guests with reservations are seated first, followed by walk-ins. Luckily, when we arrived at 11:20 am, only five groups were ahead of us. Perhaps the rainy weather played to our advantage, allowing us to get seated right away.

The restaurant has an effortlessly cool vibe. With retro decor, plenty of red accents, and an ambiance reminiscent of a bustling Hong Kong market, it’s both inviting and unique.

The three of us ordered one Sogeum Gui (pork belly 500g) and one Hangjeongsal (pork jowl 160g). The pork was so delicious that we ended up ordering an additional half plate of Sogeum Gui (250g).

Side dishes were plentiful, with condiments like pollack roe-infused Ssamjang, wasabi, and salt served individually.

Chives and mushrooms were also grilled alongside the meat. One of the best parts? The staff handles all the grilling, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy both the food and the atmosphere.

From the first bite, I was blown away by the chewy texture and rich flavor of the meat. Watching it sizzle on the grill made it impossible not to crave a glass of Soju.

Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste soup)  9,000 won

Once we finished the meat, we ordered a bowl of rice and Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew). The stew was made with a traditional soybean paste from Korea’s southern regions, giving it a rich and deeply satisfying flavor.

I noticed they also offered Gochujang-marinated pork belly (19,000 won) and a selection of highballs, but unfortunately, I was too full to try them this time. That’s just one more reason to visit their Magok location in the near future.
