Sancheong Sutbul Garden (Euljiro store)
The Sancheong Sutbul (charcoal) Garden is still relatively unknown. Just this year, a brand-new barbecue eatery made its debut in Magok district, which explains why.
But the common few things that every single person who has been there says.
"It is absolutely delicious. Already, there is a long wait. Hurry up and get there before the line grows much longer. Cozy and helpful staff"
Another famous Mongtan barbecue restaurant in Samgakji is one of the destinations I want to go but I've never been able to go there due to the extremely long wait times. And this Sancheong Sutbul Garden was launched by the primary directors of Mongtan.
Along with that, they opened "Segwang Yang-daechang" and "Gyodae Icheung-jib", which are also loved by the locals.
Since it was launched by people who had previously succeeded their previous eatery, it was not surprising that the Magok location became wildly popular upon its opening. Later, they launched a second location in Euljiro this September(2023).
Sancheong Sutbul Garden (Euljiro store)
This barbecue place serves black pork from the famous Jirisan (mountain) as well as other regional specialties from the nearby Sancheong-gun (county) in Gyeongsangnam-do (province).
Everyone knows that Hipjiro (Hip + Euljiro district) is always busy, this spot would be no exception, especially on weeknights and weekends. Last week, I had the chance to have lunch there.
Come out of Exit 11 of Euljiro 3-ga Station and go straight. Take a right turn at the Noroo Paint Store, and the sign will be on the corner.
Months ago, on my way to Eulji-ro for dinner, I walked past this restaurant and wondered what kind it was and why the line was so long.
At precisely 11:30 am, it opens for lunch. Guests with reservations will be let in before those waiting in line at the site.
There were only 5 groups ahead of us when we arrived at 11:20 am, so we we able to enter right away. I don't know if it was because it was a rainy day.
It is recommended to research online the several methods to decrease the waiting line in advance if you intend to visit at a busy time.
Cool vibes all around. With its retro decor and abundance of red accents, it exudes an exotic, almost Hong Kong, China market atmosphere.
Menu
The three of us ordered one Sogeum Gui (pork belly 500g) and one Hangjeongsal (pork jowl 160g). It was so delicious that we added half a plate (250g) of Sogeum Gui later!
A variety of side dishes are also available.
Ssamjang, a traditional sauce added with pollack roe, Wasabi, and Salt was served on individual plates.
Sogeum Gui (pork belly) 58,000 won
Hangjeongsal (pork jowl) 21,000 won
Looks pretty delicious.
Everything is cooked by the staff, so you can just relax and enjoy the meal and ambiance.
Chives and mushrooms are also on the fire as well. You can't help but think about Soju when you watch meat being grilled.
Just a single bite was enough to wow me with the meat's chewy texture and flavor.
Doenjang-jjigae (black soybean paste soup) 9,000 won
We ordered a bowl of rice and Doenjang-jjigae after we finished our meat.
The soybean paste that is traditionally produced in the southern region gave the Doenjang-jjigae a very rich and delicious flavor. There was also Gochujang(red chili paste) marinated pork belly that I wanted to try, but I couldn't eat anymore because I was already full.
For Gochujang pork belly (19,000 won) and highballs, I'll have to visit another Magok location soon.
