Wonjo Hal-a-beoji Sondubu (Achasan Grandpa's Homemade Tofu)
After hiking Achasan, there are a few well-known spots people like to visit for a bite, and Wonjo Hal-a-beoji Sondubu (Achasan Grandpa's Homemade Tofu) is one of them. It gets really busy during lunch hours, so I recommend coming early in the morning if you want to avoid the crowd!
Sundubu (Soft tofu) 4,000 won
As soon as you sit down, the staff quickly comes around to take your order, so it’s better to decide in advance. The Sundubu (soft tofu) was delicious, and their house-made jeotgal (fermented seafood) was surprisingly unique and tasty!
Kong-guksu (Soy bean noodles) 7,000 won
They had Kong-guksu available, so I ordered a bowl. The soy broth was smooth and light.
The broth was closer to the standard thin and smooth soy milk base. They used thin noodles, which were easy to eat. If you prefer thick, creamy soy broth, this might not be for you, but it’s perfect for cooling down on a hot day.
The menu overall is very affordable. One thing that stood out was the variety of Makgeolli (Korean rice wine), almost every table had at least one bottle!
Most of the guests seemed to have just finished hiking. If you wait off to the side, the staff will guide you to a table. With everyone enjoying Makgeolli, meals tend to be longer and more relaxed. Overall, the food was great value, and I’d definitely come again after another Achasan hike.
