Yongmun Galbi

Yongmun Galbi

Today, I’d love to introduce you to Yongmun Galbi jib (Yongsan, Seoul), a beloved spot known for its delicious pork ribs and over 50 years of tradition. It’s located near Yongmun Market, just a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hyochang Park Station.

Menu

The menu focuses mainly on marinated ribs like Galbi (Korean beef short ribs), and Dwaeji-Galbi (pork ribs). Of course, there’s also Samgyeopsal, the all-time favorite of many Koreans.

Side Dish

Side dishes include fresh green onion salad, pickled radish, carrots, mushrooms, spicy green chili, garlic, and ssamjang. Along with well-aged kimchi, chilled dongchimi (radish water kimchi), and a generous basket of leafy greens.

And a complimentary Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)! Though it looked light at first glance, the flavor turned out to be surprisingly rich and hearty.

Dwaeji-Galbi (pork ribs)  22,000 won

Their pork ribs (22,000 won per serving) are made from only locally sourced Korean pork, no imported meat. Though the marinade looked intense, it was surprisingly mild and well-balanced.

The pork ribs are placed on the grill along with garlic. The charcoal heat isn’t too strong, which helps the meat cook gently and evenly.

The marinade isn’t overpowering, so the meat tastes great even on its own. But a dip in the sweet and spicy cho-gochujang makes it even better. It brought back childhood memories of old-school Dwaeji-Galbi.

It pairs beautifully with the green onion salad, and of course, you can’t forget the classic combo — a bite of meat, a spoon of rice, some kimchi, and fresh veggies. Pure happiness in one mouthful.

Naengmyeon (cold noodles) 2,000 won

Even though we were full, we ordered the cold noodles, just 2,000 won! Most BBQ spots charge nearly double, so this was a lovely, refreshing way to end the meal without breaking the bank.

If you’re looking for a pork galbi spot in Yongsan that’s flavorful but not overwhelming, Yongmun Galbi is a must-visit. The kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again.
