The Hyundai Seoul

The Hyundai Seoul

Ever since The Hyundai Seoul (Yeouido, Seoul) opened its doors, visiting this stunning shopping destination has been on my to-do list. True to its reputation, the mall offers a unique blend of shopping, dining, and a nature-inspired ambiance that feels more like a botanical garden than a retail center.

Descending into the basement level, I discovered a sprawling wine shop, a food court, and a variety of grocery stores. The fountain and exterior landscaping immediately caught my eye and became the highlight of my visit.

What truly sets The Hyundai Seoul apart is its emphasis on planterior design, an indoor space filled with lush greenery. The greenery creates the illusion of being outdoors, making the mall feel more like a relaxing retreat than a typical shopping experience. It was lovely to take breaks from window shopping in the many green spaces scattered throughout the mall.

BUN PATTY BUN

We decided to stop at BUN PATTY BUN, a burger joint located in the food court. The burgers, priced at over 10,000 won each, felt expensive at the time but seem more reasonable now considering rising prices.

However, the size was disappointing. The actual burger was much smaller than its picture on the menu, leaving my friend unsatisfied after finishing it in no time. Sharing one burger between the two of us left us still hungry, so we continued exploring the mall.

The Hyundai Seoul is filled with an array of boutiques and brands, many of which were new to me. While the selection was diverse and visually appealing, we struggled to find restaurants that suited our tastes. Eventually, we ended up at StrEAT, an Asian eatery in the basement food court.

We ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Yaki Gyoza. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was disappointing, it had absorbed all the liquid in the bowl, leaving it overly soggy and lacking in flavor. It’s curious how some food court offerings lose their quality despite being associated with popular names. The Yaki Gyoza, while decent, wasn’t enough to redeem the meal.

Despite the underwhelming dining experiences, The Hyundai Seoul impressed me with its planterior aesthetics and relaxing atmosphere. While the food court may not have lived up to expectations, the mall’s overall design and concept make it worth a visit.
