Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun (1 Double, Standard)

Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun (1 Double, Standard)

Shilla Stay (Gwanghwamun, Seoul) is just a 5-minute walk from Jonggak Station's Exit 2. While I often visit the Jonggak Station area, this was my first time staying at a hotel here.

The entrance to Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun is conveniently located next to a Starbucks. The lobby is on a higher floor, so you'll need to take an elevator to reach it. While the building itself isn't designed specifically as a hotel, the Shilla Stay sign makes it easy to find.

Floor Guide

The 8th floor houses the lobby, cafe, bar, meeting room, gym, and business center.

The cafe (where breakfast is served) and bar are located on the 8th floor, while guest rooms are on floors 9 through 19.

Lobby (8F)

On the 8th floor, you can complete your check-in or check-out procedures at the lobby. If there are no additional charges during your stay, you can simply leave the room key behind and head out.

Guests also have access to the conference room and business center. The meeting space pictured below is equipped with comfortable seating and even a real fire in the stove.

Business Center (8F)

The business center is equipped with a computer, printer, and a spacious desk area.

I had reserved a standard room with a double bed. The hotel’s check-in time is 3:00 pm, and check-out is at noon.

Room 1026  (1 Double, Standard)

I stayed in Room 1026. From here, you can catch a glimpse of Jogyesa Temple. The staff mentioned that the temperature in this room is about one degree Celsius lower than the rest of the hotel, but I didn’t find it to be a significant issue.

Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun is famous for its stunning views of Jogyesa Temple. The staff told me that at 4:00 am, a bell-ringing event takes place at the temple, but since I rarely wake up in the middle of the night, it didn’t disturb me.

The bed was comfortable, and the room was suitable for either a single guest or two people. There was also a table with enough space for my suitcase.

The room at Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun had plenty of natural light pouring in through the large window.

While you can see Jogyesa Temple through the window, there was a cold front on the day I visited, so I kept the curtains closed.

Robes and essentials like shampoo and soap were supplied, but there were no single-use items. I appreciated the hotel’s policy of not offering disposable toiletries.

The view of Jogyesa Temple from the room was a pleasant surprise. It’s unusual to find a temple in the heart of a bustling city like Seoul.

One downside was the room’s temperature. Despite adjusting the thermostat to its highest setting, the room remained at 20°C. This may have been due to the cold front that day, as it seemed unlikely the temperature would rise much higher.

When I mentioned the issue to the staff, they quickly brought in a heater. I suspect this was more of a building issue, and it’s probably not ideal to visit during the winter months.

Aside from the cold room, the location near Jonggak Station made it easy to explore the area. The quality of the staff and the cleanliness of the amenities contributed to an overall enjoyable stay.
