Namsan (with Cable car)

Namsan Mountain, located in the heart of Seoul, offers a unique charm in every season. Right now, its breathtaking beauty is on full display with the vibrant hues of fall foliage covering the landscape.

Here’s a guide to the most scenic walks on Namsan and useful information about nearby cable cars, perfect for your autumn adventure.

Namsan’s central location makes it accessible from all directions, but the two most popular routes are: Namsan North Sunhwanno (Ringway) : a scenic walking route / Namsan Cable Car : a quick and easy way to the top

Walking on the Namsan North Sunhwanno(Ringway)

Namsan is largely car-free, with vehicle access limited to disabled and business vehicles. For everyone else, you can take Bus #01 from Chungmuro or Dongguk University Station to reach the entrance of the North Sunhwanno (Ringway).

This route is especially popular during autumn, offering a lively atmosphere as soon as you start your walk. The sound of a gentle brook along the path adds to the charm, making every step more enjoyable.

If you're up for a challenge, take the steep staircase from Jangchungdan Park. Although the climb is quite long and steep, the reward is worth it, brilliant autumn foliage intensifies as you ascend through the hill.

At the end of the route, you’ll reach Waryongmyo.

Namsan Cable Car

If you prefer a quicker route, the Namsan Cable Car is a great option. There’s also a shuttle service from Seoul Station and Myeongdong Station Exit 1, making it convenient for visitors.

Be prepared for crowds! I visited on a Saturday afternoon (3 pm), and the line was quite long due to the sunny weather. A round-trip ticket costs 14,000 won for adults, but I opted for a one-way ticket so I could enjoy walking back down, more on that later!

Though the wait was lengthy, the stunning views made it all worthwhile. The cable car ride itself takes about three minutes, offering a panoramic glimpse of Seoul’s autumn beauty.

At the top, the square was bustling with people soaking in the seasonal charm. From above, the autumn foliage on Namsan is even more striking, making it a perfect spot for photos.

For your descent, I recommend walking down along the same route as the cable cars to fully appreciate the scenery.

As the sun sets, the colors of the autumn leaves become even more vibrant, creating a magical view that attracts visitors from all over the world.

While the cable car route offers more stunning views than the North Sunhwanno, keep in mind that it can be costly and less accessible for some visitors.

If you continue following the path down, you’ll eventually reach the Namsan Library, where you can catch buses 402 or 405 to Gangnam, Myeongdong, or the Han River. Alternatively, you can walk to nearby neighborhoods like Itaewon, Gyeongridan, or Haebangchon for more exploring.

To celebrate the beauty of autumn in Seoul, I’ve shared some of the best routes to experience Namsan Mountain. Whether you choose to take a scenic walk or ride the cable car, I hope your trip to Namsan is as satisfying and memorable as mine.
