Brewing Ceremony
Seongsu-dong, now younger than ever. Even late on a Sunday afternoon, the area was packed with people.
From adults to young people, everyone in Seongsu-dong seems to be enjoying the lively atmosphere. Of all the places I visited that day, this café was the one I was most excited to try.
It was highly recommended as a café that’s both impressive and welcoming. Normally, when I’m in Seongsu-dong, I tend to visit Lowkey or Danil Seoul, but today I’m stopping by Brewing Ceremony (Seongsu, Seoul), which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.
Located slightly off the bustling main streets, Brewing Ceremony sits in a quieter residential area. The peaceful surroundings immediately made me feel more relaxed.
These days, finding a café that stays open until 9 pm (it opens at 11 am) is rare and special. Many cafés close as early as 8 pm, so finding one open later is a real pleasure.
The café features a black mirrored exterior, allowing you to look out while seated inside, but preventing people outside from seeing in. It creates a sense of privacy and comfort, making the atmosphere more relaxing.
When I stepped inside, the place was packed. I let them know I was willing to wait and sat on the outdoor bench provided. They soon kindly informed me that a seat was available.
Though I wanted to capture the brewing process in the central space, I felt too shy to pull out my camera. The staff’s kindness made me more conscious of not wanting to disturb anyone, so I simply took my seat quietly instead.
In the center of the shop, there were displays of coffee beans for sale, along with canvas bags.
The back of the paper, where the tasting notes of the beans you ordered are written, has an emotional quote.
I opted for El Salvador beans instead of my usual Ethiopian choice. With the warm, slightly humid weather, I craved a softer flavor instead of something acidic, and this seemed like the perfect fit.

Not long after I sat down, they brought me the coffee. It was crystal clear and the aroma was bright, fresh, almost like wine.
Taking a sip, I was amazed. The flavor was indescribably smooth and fragrant, with a tea-like aroma that was truly delightful.
The layout of the cafe, with glass walls all around and a central table that naturally directs focus inward, made it easier to concentrate on the coffee itself. Though the tables were relatively close to one another, no one spoke too loudly, which added to the pleasant atmosphere.
Since I was stepping out for the occasion, I wore my Visvim FBT shoes. They’re getting a bit old, so perhaps it’s time to get them re-dyed.
The vibe of the customers and the atmosphere of the Brewing Ceremony harmonized perfectly.
The coffee was excellent, but the warm and attentive service stood out just as much. The staff even came over to check how the coffee tasted and explained the details of the beans I had ordered. It’s this level of care that makes Brewing Ceremony so praiseworthy.
Although I wanted a second cup, I had another appointment, so I left with a happy heart. The Brewing Ceremony is definitely a spot I’d revisit when I come to Seongsu-dong again. My coffee tours just keep getting more fun!
