Hanyakbang & Hyemindang
My buddy, whom I hadn't seen in a while, mentioned that she wanted to experience the unique ambiance of Hipjiro, so we headed to Coffee Hanyakbang and Hyemindang, which is located in Euljiro's back alley!
It was especially charming due to its location in a quiet alley. Despite this, there are a lot of repeat customers.
Coffee Hanyakbang
This cafe is located in Hyeminseo (the medical authority of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea), where Mr. Heo Jun used to treat the sick in the old days.
Every month on the final Sunday, they provide free drinks to the parents. Sunday with the family sounds like a great day to stop by.
Even though the room isn't particularly spacious, the open ceiling and mother-of-pearl cabinet interior give it a powerful presence. A lovely cafe on a little side street in Euljiro.
Pour over (4,500 won) is the best seller among their coffee options. After placing our order, we took a quick tour of the cafe.
Inside, the vintage decor has been carefully kept. The products for sale here are also presented in attractive packaging that is designed to match the ambiance. It's a style that works well with both vintage and modern trends without looking out of place.
There are seats on the second floor, accessible through the steep and winding wooden staircase. We sat on the ground floor of Hyemindang since that's where dessert would be served.
On the second floor, there was a little terrace seat that made me feel like I'd gone back in time. When it gets warm, this would be a nice spot to visit again.
The view of Hyemindang from the terrace seat was really decent. Under the pitched roof, the narrow alley has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Hyemindang
A bakery and dessert shop located directly across from Coffee Hanyakbang.
To pair with my Hanyakbang coffee, we ordered some sweets from Hyemindang. There were many options available, making selection challenging.
We got there early, so there were more seats available than we anticipated.
Pour over 4,500 won
Pour over (filter coffee) Hanyakbang! We got both the hot and iced varieties. Snowflake ice improves the flavor of iced drinks above ordinary ice.
Lime Basil Tart (left) 7,500 won / Mousse Omija (right) 6,800 won
Here are two sweets from Hyemindang. I enjoy basil and lime, so I got another lime basil tart to go with my Mousse Omija cake, which is a really well-known dessert here.
Both the texture and flavor were very pleasant. Mousse Omija is true to its original sweet-and-sour flavor and creamy texture, the Lime Basil Tart was also very good. It felt good to finally settle on a cafe in Euljiro that met my standards.
