Located about 900 meters from Gyeongbokgung Station, Archivist Cafe (Seochon, Seoul) is a must-visit spot for coffee lovers and brunch enthusiasts. While it’s possible to walk, I opted for a quick taxi ride to save time.

Even on weekdays, Archivist Cafe can get busy. When I arrived, there was already a line, so I signed up for the waiting list and got in about 40 minutes later.

Luckily, there’s plenty to see in the area, so I spent the waiting time exploring the nearby Edition Denmark store, which offered a nice distraction.

While I’ve seen sandwiches and brunch options featured on their Instagram, I couldn’t find a written menu in the store to confirm if they were still available.

Most of the baked goods had already sold out by the time I got there, but a few scones, financiers, cookies, and cakes were still on display.

The cafe’s interior design is one of its standout features. The dark green walls paired beautifully with the eclectic mix of lighting fixtures, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.

Since opening in September 2018, Archivist Cafe has become a favorite among locals, and it’s easy to see why.

Archivist Einspanner 6,000 won

I decided to try the Archivist Einspanner, one of their signature drinks. The thick whipped topping was rich, stable, and paired perfectly with the coffee.

While the cup is small, the combination of coffee and cream was well-balanced and satisfying. I recommend pairing this drink with a pound cake or financier—the creamy topping enhances the flavors of the pastries beautifully.

I also tried a butter scone, which turned out to be drier than expected. While it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for, the overall experience was still enjoyable, especially with the coffee.

Archivist Cafe is more than just a coffee shop, it’s a place where excellent drinks meet cozy, thoughtful design. If you’re in the Gyeongbokgung area and looking for a relaxing spot with a great atmosphere, delicious coffee, and a touch of local charm, Archivist Cafe is definitely worth a visit.
