Built in 1971, Seosomun Apartment in Seodaemun is a fascinating structure. While it might seem a bit eerie at night, during the day, it transforms into a completely different place.

This seven-story, 115-meter-long, river-shaped apartment was uniquely constructed over a covered stream.

Today, the first floor is home to several charming cafés, each with its own distinct concept, filling the air with the rich aroma of freshly roasted coffee.

A newly opened espresso bar on the ground floor has been drawing attention for its intimate yet distinctive vibe.

Originally debuting in Yeonnam-dong (Seoul), Pfiff Espresso Bar became so popular that it expanded to this Seosomun location.

Unlike its first store, which caters to a more general crowd, this branch focuses on serving local office workers, offering a quick yet high-quality coffee experience.

The café itself is quite small, and staying at the bar for a long time isn't really an option. With people constantly passing behind you, it's more of a grab-and-go or a quick espresso break kind of spot.

 

Menu

Pfiff’s menu features a selection of signature espresso-based drinks, with two standout favorites:

Pfiff Coffee – Espresso topped with Earl Grey-flavored cream

Ferrero – Espresso with milk and hazelnut cream

Many visitors also purchased coffee beans, likely drawn to the café’s reputation for high-quality roasting.

Before drinking, the barista recommended that I sip half of it first, then shake the rest before finishing. The espresso had a delightfully nutty flavor with low acidity, pairing beautifully with the sweet, creamy topping.

This place is far away from my office, but if it were nearby, I'd come here often to get coffee.

After my coffee, I took a leisurely stroll alon Jeongdong-gil, one of the most beautiful streets in Seoul. Lined with charming cafés and historic buildings, it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

With fall just around the corner, my friends and I are already making plans to return. When the leaves begin to change color and drift to the ground, I’ll be back to experience this picturesque Doldam-gil in all its autumn glory.
