For one night, I had the opportunity to experience a peaceful bookstay at Gatgaji (Yongsan, Seoul).

As I stepped through the white gate, a small courtyard came into view. Though compact, it was the most tranquil and restorative place I could have chosen.

Inside, the space that welcomed guests was thoughtfully arranged.

Incense was provided alongside a curated selection of recommended books. A speaker connected to an iPod played the owner’s personal playlist, blending seamlessly with the gloomy weather and the cozy atmosphere of the lodging. 

Tucked behind the entrance was a tiny kitchen, equipped with a hand-drip coffee set. Essential tableware was also neatly arranged, ready for both in-house dining and takeout.

I love reading, but I also enjoy the process of deciding which book to pick up next. A bookshelf filled with interesting titles made the space even cozier than I had imagined. I spent a long time browsing through the collection, carefully selecting my favorites.

The bathroom had everything I needed except a toothbrush. The towels were so soft and luxurious, a small detail that added to the sense of comfort.

Most of my time here was spent reading and snacking. The soft lighting and gentle music created such a relaxing environment that I lost track of time.

With the door open to let in the fresh morning air, I sat outside with a cup of coffee, soaking in the last moments of my stay.

Before leaving, I signed the guestbook and wrote a short note. It had been so long since I last used a pencil and eraser that the simple act felt oddly nostalgic. 

After checking out, I followed a tip from the guestbook and visited Bundang History Park in Itaewon to take in the view of Namsan Tower.

Less than a five-minute walk from the accommodation, a breathtaking scene unfolded before me. I could only imagine how stunning it would look at night. Next time, I’ll be sure to take an evening stroll to experience it in a different light.
