Hanok Hotel Daam
On a business trip to Seoul, I chose to stay at the Hanok Hotel Daam near Anguk Station in Ikseon-dong. I also wanted to tour the city during my stay.
Though Anguk Station on Line 3 is the nearest, I hopped out at Jongno 3-ga station and strolled through Ikseon-dong.
After a long time, I walked along Ikseon-dong and Seoseon-ra-gil and when I saw Changdeokgung Palace, I felt like I had almost arrived at the hotel.
Even better, it had the atmosphere of a Seoul alley; I love to visit this area whenever I'm in Seoul since here is a perfect example of how the past and the current cohabit.
From the moment I stepped through the entrance, I could sense the traditional Hanok (traditional Korean house or architecture) hotel vibe.
Hotel Daam (Daytime)
Upon entering the lobby on the first floor, you will be greeted by a view of the serene and delightful outside yard.
Having bifolding doors made it even better because they could open them all to enjoy the front patio area when the weather is nice.
It has both a modern and traditional vibe, typical of a modern Hanok hotel.
On one side, there was a little bamboo forest and garden. Despite its diminutive size, the place was beautifully designed and had a serene atmosphere.
All visitors can have complimentary breakfast on the first floor.
The abundance of tables made it easy to spread out and enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the morning.
Hanok Hotel Daam (Night)
Returning in the evening after work, the lighting was different from what I experienced throughout the day.
Here I booked a shared room (like a capsule hotel) and spent my evening either working on my laptop or relaxing in this lobby. It was more peaceful and pleasant than I had anticipated.
Check-in & Room type (Super Single Shared Room)
I was able to check in immediately after making an online reservation for a Super Single Shared Room.
Breakfast and laundry are complimentary, which is a huge plus, and the English guidance were helpful, which is why many international tourists come here.
The shared rooms are located on the second and third floors. The second floor is for women only, while the third floor is split into two sections, one for men and one for women.
Depending on the size of the bed, three different types of single shared rooms are available: standard single, super single, and premium single.
They also provide rooms with double-size beds, however, they do not allow guests of different genders to stay in one room.
Unlike the shared rooms, the guest rooms on floors 5 and 6 are completely private and can accommodate up to three people.
3F
My room was on the third floor in the men's section. A long hallway split down the middle into two sections: one for men and one for women.
Since I frequently stay in shared rooms on overseas trips, I didn't find the experience to be inconvenient. What's more, the room was roomier than I had anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise.
A high-quality latex mattress ensures a restful night's sleep, and you'll also find bath amenities, bathrobes, earplugs, and bottled water.
Hangers, mirrors, and slippers are all provided, no matter how small the space is.
Charging my phone was not a problem with the abundance of outlets and USB ports.
Underneath the bed, you can find a garbage can, a place to put your slippers and even a personal safe.
Even first-time visitors shouldn't have any trouble using it because the information is well presented in both Korean and English.
While some people may be hesitant to stay in this type of accommodation, it is recommended for solo travelers looking for shared rooms at a low price.
The bathroom was spotless with a shower on the right and the toilet on the left. You can find hairdryers under the sink.
By following the directions, you can use the washing machine that is conveniently located next to the bathroom.
The shower is roomy enough for one person to wash comfortably.
Breakfast (07:00 - 10:00)
The complimentary breakfast was a big factor in my decision to stay here. I chose this accommodation because I love having breakfast on the go, whether I'm traveling for work or pleasure, and it's free for all customers.
For breakfast, you will find everything you need: bread, rice, cereal, fried eggs, grilled mushrooms and veggies with butter, strawberry jam, salad, and more.
In the peaceful ambiance of a hanok, I had a delicious breakfast.
Hanok Hotel Daam is a budget-friendly shared-room hotel (guesthouse) next to Anguk Station in city center that everyone should check out.
