Ryse Autograph Collection (hongdae)

Known as one of Seoul’s most iconic neighborhoods and a cultural hub for South Korea’s youth, Hongdae embodies the city’s vibrant energy and creativity.

From punks rebelling against mainstream media culture to hipsters seeking trendy European modern rock and hip-hop enthusiasts supporting the underground scene, Hongdae has long been a gathering place for subcultures. This melting pot of artistic expression has played a significant role in shaping South Korea’s thriving pop culture in the 21st century.

Ryse Autograph Collection : A Cultural Hub in the Heart of Hongdae

Nestled in the lively streets of Hongdae (Seoul), the Ryse Autograph Collection Hotel isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a cultural hub that celebrates art, design, and creativity.

The hotel showcases impressive collaborations with local and international modern artists, making every corner feel like an art gallery. Despite being a Marriott property, Ryse offers a refreshingly different vibe from the typical Marriott hotels, blending luxury with an edgy, artistic flair.

Blue Bottle Coffee

On the ground floor, you’ll find the renowned Blue Bottle Coffee, perfect for grabbing a hot cup of coffee while soaking in the stylish atmosphere. Sipping a warm coffee on a rainy day while waiting to check in was the perfect start to my stay.

Lobby Lounge (3rd floor)

The lobby lounge on the 3rd floor is equally impressive, with a carefully curated selection of vinyl records and magazines, reflecting the unique taste of the hotel’s curator. It’s a space that invites you to sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the creative energy of Hongdae.

Due to updated environmental policies, the hotel no longer provides toothbrushes and razors, so don’t forget to bring your own!

Creator Room (12 Floor)

I stayed in the Creator Room on the 12th floor, one of Ryse’s most basic room types, but it felt far from ordinary. The blue-toned decor created a calming atmosphere, and the white, fluffy bed was so inviting, I couldn’t wait to dive in and relax!

The room was well-equipped with a couch, coffee table, TV, and footstool, providing plenty of comfort for lounging and watching TV.

One downside I often find with hotels is the lack of smart TVs, which makes streaming Netflix or YouTube a hassle. Thankfully, I brought my laptop and connected it to the TV using an HDMI cable (available for rent at the front desk), problem solved!

Despite the rainy weather, the view from my room was breathtaking. The entire Hongdae neighborhood stretched out before me, with glimpses of Mangwon-dong in the distance. The scene was just as captivating as the energy on the streets below.

The room also featured a Bluetooth speaker, perfect for playing my favorite music during my stay.

I appreciated the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, with water served in glass bottles instead of single-use plastics, and a tea and coffee maker provided. It’s a small but meaningful effort to reduce waste, which I truly value.

The hotel even provided facial sheet masks, adding a little self-care to my stay.

Bathroom

The marble-lined bathroom was sleek and elegant, featuring a spacious shower and all essential amenities, except for toothbrushes and razors due to the new eco-friendly policy. I also appreciated the inclusion of a bidet, a thoughtful touch that added to the overall comfort.

The next morning, I woke up to a brilliantly blue sky, a stark contrast to the rainy day before. Much like the clear sky, my experience at Ryse Hotel was refreshingly pleasant, stylish, comfortable, and effortlessly cool.
