Novotel Ambassador Dongdaemun (executive room)
We considered booking a room at one of the many Novotel Ambassador locations in Seoul. The Novotel in Dongdaemun was the one we picked.
It's a short walk from Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station (DDP), Exit 12.
When you walk in via the door with the five stars on it, a charming Playmobil model will greet you.
Lobby (1F)
Both the hotel and the residence were on separate floors. We were led to the elevator and then directed to the check-in desk.
The check-in time is 3 pm, however, we got there a little early so we left our bags in the lobby on the ground floor. They told us that our bags would be delivered to the room after we checked in.
Floor Guide
Check-in (19F)
We were able to check in on the 19th floor.
We had reserved an executive room on the Agoda website and were given a room on the 19th level.
No toothbrushes were provided, although they offered to provide one for a small donation (1,000 won).
Executive Room (19F)
The room was spacious and pleasant, more so than I had anticipated. A wide selection of fabrics and bedding was available for purchase.
Bathroom
Only a shower was available in the bathroom. It's a little inconvenient that the bathroom door is made of opaque glass, but at least no one can see inside when the brown sliding door is closed.
Products like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and hand soap were provided. But, you'll need to bring your own facial cleanser, toothbrush, toothpaste, and comb.
- No combs are provided in the rooms; however, they are accessible upon request.
- For a donation of 1,000 won, toothbrushes are available in the lobby.
The right side of the bed had a touchscreen from which one could request extra bottled water, towels, combs, etc.
Nespresso Coffee capsules & tea
Scanning the QR code allowed me to make a pool reservation. The outdoor pool was closed for the season, therefore the only option was to utilize the indoor pool.
Since the indoor pool requires a reservation, it's best to do so as soon as possible once you've checked in.
Afternoon tea (12:00-16:00), Happy Hour (17:30-19:30), and Breakfast (07:30-10:00) were all included in our one-night package.
Afternoon tea (12:00-16:00)
There was a wide selection of tea bags, pastries, drinks, juices, and fruits. The view was not great because of the construction going on outside the window. After our tea time, I changed into my swimsuit and made my way to the pool.
Swimming pool (20F)
The 20th floor houses the reception area, bar, pool, and gym.
Indoor swimming pool
There was a large pool with a waterfall in the middle and a separate jacuzzi within. Life jackets and swimming kickboards were available for rent, and the pool water was comfortably warm even in the dead of winter.
Happy hour (17:30~19:30)
Happy hour was smaller than expected. Beer, vodka, four varieties of wine, and a cheese dish were provided.
Fitness
Once happy hour was over, I headed straight for the gym. There were only a few people around late at night.
Breakfast (07:00~10:00)
Besides omelets and rice noodles, of course. Everything from bakery goods to fried eggs and bacon to soup, and rice was available. It was a wonderful breakfast.
Even though I wasn't able to utilize the outside pool, I still had a great time in the indoor pool. We were a little let down by happy hour, but breakfast was fine.
