Downtowner (Anguk store)
After nearly a year, I revisited Downtowner Burger this time at their Anguk-dong (Seoul) location. My husband and I are huge fans of their burgers and usually visit their Hannam-dong branch, but we decided to check out Anguk-dong for a change.
Conveniently located near Anguk Station Exit 2, The Downtowner (Anguk) is beautifully styled in the architecture of a Hanok (Korean traditional house). Right next door, you’ll find the famous Knotted Donut.
Unlike our previous visit to the Hannam-dong branch, where we had to wait under the scorching sun, there was no line this time, a major plus! The interior stayed true to the Hanok theme, exuding a traditional yet modern vibe. There’s even a low table available, though it’s meant for groups of six.
Menu
Every visit to Downtowner Burger brings the same challenge: picking from their incredible menu. I always order the Bacon Cheeseburger, but I’m constantly tempted to try something new. If it weren’t for our dinner plans, my husband and I might have gone all out and ordered three burgers between the two of us.
Magpie Lager 6,500 won
We kicked things off with a cold Magpie draft beer, one of my favorites. Downtowner is one of the few places where I know I can find it on tap, making it an essential part of my meal there.
While I usually go for their Garlic Butter Fries, the Sweet Potato Fries caught my eye this time, so I decided to switch things up.
Spicy Shrimp Burger 12,300 won
The Spicy Shrimp Burger was noticeably larger than the Bacon Cheeseburger, a towering challenge for both of us, especially since we have small mouths! The thick shrimp patty, stuffed with both minced and whole shrimp, was perfectly complemented by the spicy sauce, which cut through the richness.
One bite, and my husband was blown away. Until this moment, I’d sworn by the shrimp burger at Smash Cheeseburger, but Downtowner’s shrimp burger has officially taken the crown.
Bacon Cheese Burger 9,300 won
As always, the Bacon Cheeseburger didn’t disappoint. Downtowner’s burger buns deserve a special shoutout. They’re soft, flavorful, and elevate the entire burger experience. If shrimp burgers aren’t your thing, their cheeseburgers (especially the Truffle Burger) or even the Avocado Burger are excellent choices.
Sweet Potato Fries 6,900 won
The Sweet Potato Fries were another highlight. Drizzled with honey, they offered a perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. While the fries at the bottom of the pile were slightly soggy and overly sweet, they were still a delightful alternative to regular fries. If you’re looking for something different, these are a must-try.
The Downtowner Burger continues to impress, and the Anguk location adds an extra layer of charm with its Hanok-inspired setting. Whether you’re near Anguk Station or exploring Jongno, this spot is a must-visit for burger lovers. And if there’s no line, consider it your lucky day!
