Gobau (bbq)

Today I visited Gobau (Dongmyo, Seoul), a famous beef barbecue restaurant in Jongno.
The moment I arrived, it felt like stepping back in time; the retro vibe was so charming. Even the signboard and building exterior gave off a nostalgic, old-Seoul feeling.

As expected from a famous spot, there was a waiting line! We waited about an hour, and once our turn came, the owner called us directly. The wait wasn’t too bad; we wandered around the neighborhood, excited for the meal ahead.

The beef looked absolutely mouthwatering!

For the price, the quality was surprisingly high, truly one of the best-value BBQ spots in Seoul. Its central Jongno location also makes it perfect for exploring nearby afterward.

We ordered galbi-sal (rib meat, 40,000 KRW), sirloin (35,000 KRW), and brisket (28,000 KRW).

The owner personally cuts each portion to order, and the marbling on the beef was absolutely beautiful. Fresh, glossy, and rich in flavor.

The beef sizzled beautifully on the hot stone grill, which kept a steady temperature and cooked the meat perfectly. Every bite was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Grilling mushrooms and onions alongside the beef made it even better!

All the side dishes were delicious and well-seasoned. The soybean paste stew was mild yet rich in flavor, very comforting. And at only 3,000 KRW, it’s definitely worth adding to your meal.

Grill the brisket lightly and enjoy it with the green onion salad, the rich beef, and the fresh crunch of green onion, which makes the perfect combination.

As my friend and I wrapped up the year, we promised to keep treating ourselves to good food like this. If you’re looking for great quality beef at a fair price in Jongno, you should definitely visit this place.
