Jangsu Bossam
In Euljiro, Seoul, there’s this long-standing restaurant called Jangsu Bossam, and the pork there was so tender and flavorful that I left completely satisfied.
I originally went there craving Bossam (boiled pork), but the menu turned out to be surprisingly diverse, from set meals, cold noodles, rice cake dumpling soup, kalguksu, and various kinds of stews.

When you order the Bossam Set Meal, you get boiled pork accompanied by rice and side dishes. The spread is lovely — rice, seaweed soup, and a variety of small dishes that pair perfectly with the bossam.
At first, I thought the meat portion for two people looked a bit small, but once we added the rice, soup, and side dishes into the mix, it was more than enough. I was totally full.
As you probably know, with bossam it’s not just about the meat — the kimchi that comes with it is just as important. The kimchi here was so delicious that I kept reaching for more.
I usually avoid bone-in cuts because they’re a bit of a hassle, but honestly, the bone-in portion had even better flavor. The meat was super tender and went perfectly with the bossam kimchi.
A meal this tasty would be perfect with some makgeolli or a cold beer, but unfortunately, they don’t serve alcohol here. If they did, I could easily imagine coming back in the evening with friends for drinks — that’s the one thing I missed.
If I’m in the neighborhood again, I’ll definitely go back. With prices in Seoul rising so much these days, it’s rare to enjoy bossam at this value.
I once saw someone’s photo from here and had been wanting to try it for ages, so I’m glad I finally did — and it was every bit as delicious as I hoped.
