Hanilkwan (Apgujeong)
Delicious Seoul-Style Bulgogi with 85 Years of Tradition
If you’re looking for an authentic Korean restaurant, Hanilkwan (Apgujeong, Seoul) is a great choice. This place has been around for 85 years, serving authentic Seoul-style bulgogi and other delicious dishes.
After enjoying popcorn while watching a movie at CGV Cheongdam, we were in the mood for Korean food. We wanted to visit a Korean restaurant in the nearby Apgujeong area and immediately thought of Hanilkwan, known for its tasty Bulgogi.
Established in 1939, Hanilkwan has been family-run for four generations. It’s a long-loved dining spot among locals and has been recognized as the 100-year-old restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
They offer private dining rooms and a large hall for group events, so it’s perfect for family gatherings, business dinners, or special occasions.
The interior is clean and modern, with a welcoming and comfortable vibe. They even have small hooks under the tables for bags, which was a nice touch.

Seasonal Porridge (Black Sesame Porridge)
The meal began with a warm and comforting creamy black sesame porridge with some salad.
Side Dishes
Radish salad, salted squid, pickled cucumber, and kimchi.
Sirloin vegetable wrap
Simply wrap fresh vegetables in thinly sliced beef, dip it in sauce, and enjoy. The soft texture of the beef and the freshness of the vegetables created a perfect balance.
Mung Bean Jeon (Korean-style pancake)
Golden and crispy, this mung bean jeon was cooked to perfection.
Spicy Octopus Stir-Fry
A chewy, tender octopus and a kick of spice. The noodles served alongside balanced the flavors nicely.
The signature Hanilkwan’s Bulgogi
The restaurant’s signature Seoul-style bulgogi in a sizzling pot filled with broth. With perfectly cooked onions, mushrooms, and beef, this dish was so flavorful that I didn’t even think about pairing it with rice or other vegetables.
The bulgogi’s mild seasoning makes it a great option for all ages, from kids to grandparents.
Goldongban (bibimbap)
Known as "Goldongban" in Old Korean, this bibimbap is served sizzling hot like stone pot bibimbap.
This bibimbap (goldongban) comes with a chive-based soy sauce instead of gochujang, along with a variety of vegetables.
Add soy sauce little by little while tasting to your liking and mix it together. Then, you will have a delicious dish where each ingredient's flavor stands out. The staff recommended this Goldongban as the best choice to pair with the bulgogi, and it was a fantastic suggestion.
Along with the bibimbap, we also ordered the Ugeoji Soup, a comforting soup with tender beef and vegetables. It also paired wonderfully with the Goldongban. If you’re visiting with someone, I’d recommend ordering one Goldongban and one Ugeoji Soup to share, as they complement each other wonderfully. The Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) is another great option.
The meal ended with Sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) and a mini Yakgwa (sweet traditional cookie).
Hanilkwan’s food isn’t overly seasoned, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through. With its clean and elegant interior, friendly service, and thoughtful presentation, this restaurant is perfect for everything from casual dinners to formal gatherings.
If you’re in Apgujeong and craving Korean food, I highly recommend trying Hanilkwan’s signature dishes like their Seoul-style bulgogi and Goldongban. You won’t be disappointed.
