Teppan (Grand Hyatt Seoul)
To make my birthday this year truly special, I decided to celebrate with my family at Teppan (Itaewon, Seoul), located in the Grand Hyatt Seoul.
Renowned as one of Seoul’s finest dining destinations, Teppan offers not just exceptional food but also a captivating teppanyaki performance, turning any meal into an unforgettable experience.
Situated in the Grand Hyatt Seoul, Teppan is surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Namsan Mountain, providing breathtaking views to complement the meal.
To find Teppan, enter the hotel’s main entrance, then descend one level via the stairs.
The bar seating at the center offers the best vantage point, combining a front-row view of the chefs at work with the scenic outdoor panorama. Our family of four was seated in a cozy corner, which made for an intimate and comfortable dining experience.
Dinner Course 250,000 won
Welcome Bites / Mero (fish) / Crab / Iberico / Abalone / Seasonal Fruit / Korean Beef / Truffle Fried Rice / Persimmon / Coffee or Tea / Petit Fours
Teppan’s course menu changes seasonally, featuring fresh, high-quality ingredients. Guests can personalize their meal by upgrading the main dish (Korean beef) to Hanwoo ribs for an additional charge, or by adding luxuries like caviar, truffles, or a wine pairing option.
We opted for the wine pairing (+150,000 won), which enhanced the flavors of each dish beautifully.
The drink menu also includes sake, shochu, soju, highballs, champagne, and non-alcoholic options, catering to all preferences.
- Soft crab meat with crispy toast.
- A mini sandwich of jam and cheese.
- Korean beef meatball with miso sauce, topped with caviar.
It tasted all amazing and was a great way to start the course.
Fish (Mero)
Tender, flavorful mero fish was paired with scallops, squid, and sea urchin, topped with caviar, and finished with a rich mussel-based sauce. Watching the chef skillfully prepare this dish right in front of us was mesmerizing.
Crab
A light and refreshing dish featuring crab meat, shrimp dumplings, and lobster in a savory crab broth sauce.
Iberico
Perfectly tender Iberico pork served with wasabi sauce, mushroom sauce, and persimmon purée, beautifully balanced in both taste and presentation.
Abalone
Succulent abalone paired with spinach sauce, cheese, and caviar. The combination was both elegant and satisfying, especially alongside the paired wine.
Seasonal Fruits
A palate cleanser of kombucha and pickled peaches prepared us for the main course.
Hanwoo (Korean beef)
The chef presented the premium Korean beef before cooking it to our preference. Served with chimichurri sauce, the meat was tender and flavorful.
Hanwoo Galbi (+ 35,000 won)
We opted for the Korean Galbi upgrade, topped with truffles. It was served with sea urchin, anchovy, and yam noodles, an exquisite combination of flavors.
Truffle Fried Rice
Fragrant truffle-infused fried rice served with a creamy mushroom sauce and topped with crispy quinoa for added texture.
Dessert
Granola, persimmon, and crispy puff pastry with yogurt ice cream
A delightful mix of granola, persimmon, and crispy puff pastry paired with yogurt ice cream. For my birthday, they added a candle and gifted me a box of chocolates, such a thoughtful gesture.
Petit Fours
A selection of cookies, cakes, nuts, and traditional Korean sweets presented in a stunning Gujeolpan (a traditional Korean platter).
Wine Pairing ( +150,000 won)
The five-glass wine pairing included champagne, red, and white wines, perfectly curated to match each course. For wine enthusiasts, this addition elevates the dining experience to another level.
Teppan at the Grand Hyatt Seoul delivered an unforgettable dining experience, combining autumn’s finest seasonal ingredients with exceptional service and thoughtful touches.
While the experience comes at a premium, the quality of the food, the artistry of the chefs, and the stunning ambiance make it worth every won.
