Hannamdong Hanbang Tongdak (Oriental Roast Chicken)
Hannamdong Hanbang Tongdak is a famous eatery for its wonderful oriental-style roast chicken. I was unable to visit right after seeing it on television and instead came a very long time after. However, the wait time is still very long.
After arriving on Saturday at 17:00, our wait time ended up being 1 hour and 30 minutes. Just leave your name and phone number and they'll call you when it's your turn.
While waiting, we stopped at the nearby renowned Manseon Hof for some beer.
Just get some snacks and a beer until they call you.
We returned an hour and a half later.
An abundance of firewood for cooking chickens.
Wall lined with celebrities' signatures. The inside is not very roomy, and the aisles between tables are very tight.
Side Dish
You might be asking why Kimchi is served at an eatery specializing in chickens, but the answer is that Kimchi complements the flavor of this Oriental roast chicken perfectly. When your mouth starts to feel oily from eating, a bite of Kimchi will help.
Hanbang Tongdak (Oriental-style Roast Chicken) 20,000 won
Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. That food is making my mouth water.
Chicken skin that appears to have been slightly overcooked is especially tasty. It's the kind of place I'd like to come with friends who don't like chicken skin. lol
You can see the sticky rice inside the chicken after you cut it apart. Some ginkgo nuts as well.
Kimchi (side dish)
A tablespoon of sticky rice and some kimchi on top of it is a fantastic combo.
And when you find the meat to be too dry, just wash it down with a glass of Soju (Korean alcoholic beverage).
What's your favorite? Chicken breast or drumstick? Honestly, I enjoy it all.
Chicken drumstick
Honestly, the Hanbang Tongdak has a similar flavor to the places near my house, but the Kimchi here is definitely a highlight. When paired with Kimchi, the refreshing flavor will keep you eating the chicken until you're full.
Soju (Jinro) 5,000 won
Soju pairs beautifully with the Hanbang (Oriental-style) chicken.
It was quite delicious, but the long wait of an hour and a half wasn't worth it. If there is less waiting, I'd definitely come back.
