Miseong-ok (myeong-dong)
I visited Myeong-dong in winter after a lengthy absence. After a long COVID-19, everything seems picked up and got pretty lively. While it was freezing outside, I headed to MiseongOk, a famous Seolleongtang eatery in Myeong-dong.
You'll find a collection of historic eateries in the alley beside the Myeong-dong Police Station. There's a place called MiseongOk that has a timeless feel.
Since 1966
I never anticipated that Myeong-dong would have a cuisine alley with such a traditional vibe.
There's a delicious smell wafting in from the entrance, and since it's suddenly turned quite chilly, I was craving a hot bowl of Seolleongtang.
Even though it was an old, well-established restaurant, Miseong-Og was surprisingly clean.
It was an hour before closing when we got here. The restaurant was packed with diners. We believed one hour would be enough to dine, so we immediately placed the order.
The restaurant is quite large, so feel free to bring your friends. Staying away from the busy lunch and dinner hours is a good idea.
Menu
Only Suyuk (boiled beef) and Seolleongtang were on the menu, so we got both. As well as the Soju, which is a must.
The Kimchi and Kkakdugi (radish kimchi) were out of this world. I wanted to take home some of the spicy yet refreshing Kimchi and Kkakdugi.
Suyuk 35,000 won
Although it was too little for the four of us, we found that sampling the many flavors by eating only one piece at a time was a great way to prepare our palates for the more substantial Seolleongtang that followed.
Beef Suyuk prepared with a variety of cuts
I'm really sensitive to odors, yet I didn't detect anything when the food was served, and when I put the meat in my mouth, it was incredibly tasty, tender, and flavorful.
Soy sauce brings out the flavor.
It had a fantastic texture, being both chewy and soft. Authentic Korean beef from Miseong-og far outshines the flavor of any imported meat.
Kimchi made from cabbage had a spicy and refreshing flavor, and together with Seollengtang was a great combination. It has remained popular in the alley of Myeong-dong for so long because of this high-quality food.
Soju is an essential accompaniment to such delicious food.
Seolleongtang 11,000 won
Seolleongtang was served at the right time. Intensely flavorful seolleongtang boiling Korean beef over a long time had an extremely clear broth, almost milky in appearance.
The soup was incredibly tasty. If you're looking for a seolleongtang restaurant, look no further. A glass of soju and a hot bowl of seolleongtang; this is a little joy in life.
A serving of well-cooked rice accompanied it. The seolleongtang in particular had a remarkably clean taste. Even at this point of blogging, Miseong-og seolleongtang brings it to mind.
The deep and rich flavor helped warm up my body and revive my senses after a day in the snow. Even Suyuk tasted great and the kimchi and kkakdugi were out of this world. I intend to revisit Miseong-og on the day I leave for Seoul.
