I recently had the chance to visit Seongsu-dong and enjoyed a delightful meal at Nanpo, a restaurant located in the heart of Seongsu, Seoul.

Nanpo is a fusion Korean restaurant that draws inspiration from the dishes a grandmother lovingly prepared for her granddaughter.

When I visited on Monday during lunchtime, there was a 20 minute wait.

Menu

Nanpo's specialty "Gang Doenjang Ssambap"   12,000 won

A plate of Gang doenjang (soybean paste) with various toppings is served underneath a wrapped pumpkin leaf, adding a unique touch to the dish.

Jecheolhoe mug-eunji mali (Over-fermented kimchi roll)  13,000 won

The dish features rice wrapped in aged kimchi, with delicate slices of sashimi placed on top, creating a flavorful combination.

I was particularly excited to try the Gang Doenjang Ssambap (rice wrapped with soybean paste), but everything on both menus looked absolutely delicious.

Pumpkin leaf ssambap is one of my favorite dishes during the summer. However, the version here, wrapped with soybean paste, felt a bit too bland for my liking. I personally prefer mixing rice with a more seasoned soybean paste for extra flavor.

Jecheolhoe mug-eunji mali is a dish made with rice, sliced sashimi, and over-fermented kimchi. Unlike sushi, there's no need to dip it in soy sauce, as the flavors come together beautifully on their own.

It was so delicious that I highly recommend trying the kimchi roll with pickled burdock. It's definitely a must-try!

Gamja-Jeon  19,000 won

We ordered the Gamja-Jeon, a special potato pancake made with potatoes and dried prawns. It’s topped with melted cheese and a poached egg, making it a unique and delicious dish.

The aroma of the cheese hits you first, and when you cut into the poached egg, it feels like you're enjoying a freshly baked pizza!

The potato pancake had a distinct flavor from the dried shrimp and cheese, but its crispy texture was absolutely delightful.

This restaurant is a great spot for all ages, as the food tends to be on the milder side. However, if you prefer bold and intense flavors, you might find it a bit underwhelming.

With a location also in Hannam-dong, you can choose the one that’s most convenient for you.
