PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan

PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan, a popular Bukchon Tteok-bokki (chewy rice cakes cooked in red spicy broth) eatery is the place where I would like to introduce today.

From the outside, it's clear that this is an eatery with a lot of experience and expertise.

It all began as a rice shop, but as they started cooking their rice into Tteok-bokki and Tteok-kkochi (fried rice cake), they became super famous.

There is a rich history dating back to its opening as a rice shop thirty years ago, and my husband and I frequent there whenever we visit the Bukchon area.

Menu

You have to pay at the time you order.

Tteok-bokki, Tteok-kkochi, and Eomug-twigim-kkochi (fried fish cake) are three of the most ordered items. Sikhye (a traditional sweet Korean rice drink) looked tasty as well.

Out here, they are cooking Tteokbokki and Twigim (fried food). I felt they took great care to use pure cooking oil because the Twigim was cooked to perfection.

Saturday, shortly after noon, a few seats were still available, likely because it was a rainy day.

Multiple media have already introduced the PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan.

I wanted to eat both Tteok-kkochi (fried rice cake) and Tteokbokki, but I didn't believe I could eat them all, so I decided not to order the Tteokbokki but later found out I had made a big mistake. lol

Because I wanted to dip the Twigim (fried food) I ordered the Tteokbokki broth, but I refrained because it would be too much food. I believe it is best to arrive with a large group and order various dishes. I should come later with my sister and nephews.

I frequently ate Tteok-kkochi but requested Eomug-twigim-kkochi for the first time after hearing that they were delicious.

The freshly fried Tteok-kkochi cost 1,000 won each and are both crunchy and chewy. It is coated in a sweet-and-sour sauce.

Twigim 4,000 won

There are Squid, sweet potatoes, dumplings, and seaweed noodles included in this fried food Twigim.

Eomug 1,000 won (2 pieces)

I needed some soup, so I ordered some Eomug (boiled fish cake) instead of Tteok-bokki.

There was no accompanying soy sauce bowl, so you could simply spread the sauce on instead of dipping it.

My husband highly recommended this Eomug-twigim-kkochi.

Conclusion

If you have the Twigim, order the Tteok-bokki to dip in the soup as well. I would recommend ordering one Tteok-bokki, one Tteok-kocchi, one Eomug-twigim-kkochi, and a few other foods to your liking.
