PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan
If you're visiting Bukchon (Seoul), PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan is a must-try eatery for lovers of Tteok-bokki (chewy rice cakes cooked in a spicy red broth). With a rich history spanning over 30 years, this spot has evolved from a humble rice shop into a beloved local favorite for its traditional Korean dishes like Tteok-bokki, Tteok-kkochi (fried rice cake skewers), and Eomug-twigim-kkochi (fried fish cake skewers).
What started as a simple rice shop transformed into a famous Tteok-bokki eatery after they began cooking their rice into delicious food. The legacy of expertise and care is still evident today, making it a favorite for both locals and tourists. My husband and I make it a point to stop by whenever we’re in Bukchon.
From the outside, the eatery radiates charm and experience, with clear signs of its well-established reputation. It's no surprise that multiple media have already highlighted PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan.

Orders are paid upfront, and the staff works diligently to prepare dishes with precision and care.

On this visit, I decided to try the fried fish cake skewers for the first time.
For just 1,000 won per skewer, this is a crunchy, chewy delight coated in a perfectly balanced sweet-and-sour sauce. It's one of my favorites and an absolute must-try.
Twigim 4,000 won
A mix of deep fried squid, sweet potato, dumplings, and seaweed noodles makes up this variety platter. Each item was cooked to perfection, with a light, crispy coating that wasn’t overly greasy.
Eomug 1,000 won (2 pieces)
I also ordered some Eomug (fish cake) soup, which was comforting and flavorful, especially on a rainy day. It’s a perfect pairing with the fried dishes.
Simply spread some soy sauce on it

My husband highly recommended it, and he was absolutely right, it was delicious!
PungNyeon Ssal Nongsan is more than just a place to eat, it’s a slice of Bukchon’s history and a testament to the beauty of traditional Korean flavors. Whether you're craving Tteok-bokki, fried snacks, or a warm bowl of Eomug soup, this spot delivers on all fronts. I’m already planning my next visit with my sister and nephews to try even more of their offerings!
