Pyeongyang-jib
Today, I visited Pyeongyang-jib near Samgakji station. Here we had a wonderful family dinner with Gopchang, several cuts of meat, and alcoholic beverages.
The sign gives off the vibe of a restaurant that has been there for a long time. I had planned on making a reservation, but they indicated walk-ins were welcome on Sundays, so we did just that.
People were few because it was still early. However, the area quickly became overcrowded. We were sent to the second floor, which was much more spacious.
Menu
Two Chadolbagi (beef cut), two Yang (beef tripe), and two Gopchang (beef intestines) were ordered.
Chadolbagi 28,000 (150g)
We started with the Chadolbagi. Excellent beef cut that needs little time to cook.
By the way, my favorite is Yang(beef tripe). Yang is extremely chewy, and it has a texture so delectable that you can't stop eating it.
Gopchang 26,000 (150g)
Yang 28,000 (150g)
The cooked versions of Yang and Gopchang seem even more appetizing. But the raw appearance is a bit difficult to see.
Because it was barbecued over hot coals, the charcoal taste came through strongly. Yang is ready to eat as long as you don't see the red part.
I asked for salt (with sesame oil) but it goes great with red spicy sauce, too! It's all up to your personal preferences!
Compared to the full-bodied Gopchang found in Gopchang specialized restaurants, these were just okay in my opinion. Perhaps the usage of charcoal makes the Gopchang a drier texture. I highly recommend eating Yang and other meats while in Pyongyang-jib. Or how about just one serving of Gopchang?
In a short amount of time, we finished all and ordered more food.
Since both my father and younger brother enjoyed Chadolbagi, I placed an order for one Chadolbagi, plus one each of Yang and Arongsatae.
Arong-sa-tae 27,000 (150g)
The special seasoning on the Arongsatae made it taste even better. Similar to bulgogi, but with a bit of spicy seasoning.
We ate 9 servings, and we still haven't stopped eating.
Yangbap (Fried rice with Yang) 16,000 won
Yangbap is a must-eat at Pyongyang-jib. I prefer slightly dry and burned rice below in my crispy fried rice, but the Yangbap here was quite moist.
Naejang Gomtang 15,000 won
The Naejang Gomtang was rich and flavorful. It was kind of a hangover-friendly soup.
Pyongyangjib is so well-known that I've always wanted to visit, and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner there. These days, Samgakji seems to be full of restaurants serving wonderful food.
