Saebyukjib (with Yukhoe bibimbap)
After taking up light walking exercises recently, I have been enjoying the sense of accomplishment that comes with pushing myself, even if my legs feel like lead afterward. A few days ago, after wrapping up a walk with a friend, we began discussing lunch options. That is when Saebyukjib (Cheongdam, Seoul) came to mind, a renowned restaurant I had not visited in a while, known for its Yukhoe Bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice).

It was lunchtime, so the restaurant was packed as expected. Saebyukjib’s interior is like a maze, spacious yet constantly bustling. As we walked through, it felt like each turn revealed more tables filled with diners.
We ordered two Yukhoe Bibimbap, a dish I had been craving for ages. My friend, who had never been to Saebyukjib before, was curious but unsure. I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous, what if he does not enjoy it? Fortunately, my worries were for nothing.
The bibimbap arrived, served alongside Seonji Haejangguk (blood curd soup), another of Saebyukjib’s specialties. The vibrant colors of the meal alone were enough to whet our appetites.

To enjoy the bibimbap, you add Gochujang (red pepper paste) to your liking, along with a small amount of soup, then mix everything together. The flavors were as fantastic as I remembered, rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. Even though I’m not particularly fond of rice dishes, this Yukhoe Bibimbap is an exception I gladly make.
The Seonji Haejangguk was equally delightful. Its deep, hearty flavors explain why so many diners rave about it. Unfortunately, my friend couldn’t eat Seonji, but I happily savored every spoonful.
The restaurant was so crowded that taking photos felt impossible, but the vibrant energy added to the experience. Despite being a last-minute decision, the meal turned out to be thoroughly enjoyable.
Saebyukjib remains an iconic spot in Seoul for its Yukhoe Bibimbap and Seonji Haejangguk. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, the restaurant’s warm ambiance and unforgettable flavors make it a must-visit. For me, it’s a toss-up whether the bibimbap or the soup steals the show, they’re both simply incredible.
