Soul Dining (1-star Michelin)
One of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants in 2024 and won a Michelin 1-star, Soul Dining was the perfect spot for our romantic anniversary dinner. This restaurant was chosen for the signature session of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants in 2024, a special honor that announces the top Asian restaurants drawing attention from all over the globe.
Soul Dining
'Korean contemporary restaurant by chefs Dae-hyun Yoon and Hee-eun Kim, is a fine dining restaurant that serves dishes influenced and reimagined by Korean cuisine.'
The restaurant is located on the lower level, so enter the building and descend one floor.
The staff will kindly guide you to your seat. Also, the work and fingerprints of the one-star Michelin can be seen all over the restaurant. We found ourselves having even higher hopes for the place.
You will be greeted with a welcome card that provides an introduction to "Soul Dining", a list of today’s menu, and a list of wines to go with.
Dinner Course 240,000 won
As an extra to our dinner course, we added grilled steamed rice cakes. (+10,0)
We were happy to see the chefs cooking from the fancy bar seats we booked.
Seasonal bite
Wraps made of vegetables and refreshing drink were served. It was a nice and delicious start.
In the summer
A salad with a variety of veggies and fruits, including watermelon and blueberries.
Mulhoe
Raw fish soup reimagined by two chefs. Rather than a spicy red broth Mulhoe, this one has a clear and refreshing taste.
Mrs. Abalone Kim
One of the restaurant's signature dishes, "Mrs. Kim Jeon-bok" was the greatest abalone I've ever had. The seafood was smoked for hours to perfection. Chewy and freshly cooked abalone tasted like fine cuisine, and the smokiness added a nice touch. Among all the dishes, this one was our favorite.
Blooming
A floral-shaped chicken dish served with chicken broth. With some Basil oil drops on the side, was a lovely touch that brought to mind lotus leaves.
Gamja Jeon (Potato Pancakes)
Inspired by gnocchi, this is a potato pancake made in the Korean style. The pancake had a gnocchi-like texture and crispy, salty potato chips on top.
Special Dish (Makgeolli Rice Cake) +10.000 won
This is the rice cake that we added to our dinner course. On the left, you can see various kinds of butter in the shape of leaves. Onion (yellow), black sesame (grey), and basil (green).
Unfortunately, this time around, the steamed rice cake wasn't quite soft enough, so it was a little tough to eat.
Deep Sea ‘Doenjang’ Grilled Fish
Seabream that had been grilled to perfection was incredibly tender and flavorful, making it an ideal fish dish for fusion Korean cuisine.
Ugly Duckling
Duck leg and breast are the two portions they provide. Especially the cut of the leg was incredibly good.
Hanwoo Striploin
This is the main dish, Hanwoo striploin with some side dishes.
They set it out on a tidy Korean table, as one would expect from a modern Korean restaurant. In addition, they mention that they use unusual, non-traditional Korean ingredients and sauces in the cooking process. Very tasty was the Hanwoo striploin, and the melon kimchi over there was fantastic.
Korean Noodles
Homemade noodles in a dish.
It was unfortunate because the noodles were quite rough; I don't know if it's because they're freshly made in the restaurant. On the other hand, the broth was very delicious. Served with a side of spicy homemade sauce (on the right).
The accompanying chopsticks were a nice touch. According to them, they coordinated the color of the chopsticks with my clothing. Guests who come to dine find these seemingly insignificant details to be quite meaningful.
Bingsoo with Truffle
This is a truffle bingsu shaped like Namsan. Flavoring the bingsu with truffle was an incredible experience. I'm sure you'll love this dessert if you like truffle.
Dojagi
And the highlight of Soul Dining is this 'Ceramic pot' dessert.
A sweet treat that meticulously mirrored the restaurant's Ceramic display. Having never tasted such a gorgeous dessert before, it was absolutely unforgettable.
As a dessert for celebrating our 5th anniversary, they also made something special with lettering.
After a wonderful dinner, our wait staff gave us the ceramic dinnerware we used for dinner as a gift.
The one-star Michelin restaurant Soul Dining is great for celebrating any event, whether it's an anniversary, a date, a family dinner, or just a get-together with friends.
