1 Euro Project

1 Euro Project

Exploring the 1 Euro Project (Seongsu, Seoul), a hidden gem in Seongsu.

While Seongsu-dong is bustling with tourists and fashionistas, my neighborhood, just a bit from the main hub, remains peaceful and unassuming.

It’s an ordinary place with the charm of quiet, local life. But recently, things have started to change. A new cultural complex has opened, drawing attention and visitors.

The space, once an ordinary flat, has been transformed into a trendy cultural complex as part of an Urban Renewal Project. The project’s intriguing name, “1 Euro Project,” stems from the rental cost: tenants pay just 1 euro for three years to use the space.

Walking through the hallways, I discovered numerous small shops, each with its own unique vibe and offerings.

I started my day with a cup of coffee from Bo Market, a cozy spot offering food and drinks.

In addition to coffee, the shop sells wine and eco-friendly products, making it a versatile and welcoming space.

A lovely and unusual outdoor dining area was located in the basement. It’s a charming space, shaded and perfect for enjoying a cool treat like their shaved ice, a summer specialty that’s both refreshing and delightful.

On the second floor, I found Weekenders Bath, a private one-person bathhouse where you can indulge in a luxurious 3-hour soak.

Though it’s a bit removed from Seongsu-dong’s bustling main street, I’m genuinely impressed and grateful for the effort being poured into revitalizing this neighborhood. It’s heartwarming to see creative and cultural endeavors breathing new life into the area.

The 1 Euro Project is more than just a cool new spot, it’s a testament to how thoughtful urban renewal can transform a quiet neighborhood into a vibrant cultural hub. While it may not yet have the fame of Seongsu-dong, I’m crossing my fingers that this area will flourish in popularity and charm just as much.
