When I want to enjoy wonderful coffee in a peaceful ambiance away from the hectic streets of Hongik University, I always think of Bean Brothers (Hapjeong store).

If you exit Hapjeong Station at Exit 7 and walk a little, you'll see this fairly dark-looking building past the Eunhasu cafe.

When I first arrived, I was very impressed by this enormous glass door.

A friend introduced me to this cafe a few years ago, and it has since become a regular haunt. They utilize multiple types of beans in their coffee, and each of them is delicious.

The cafe sells a wide selection of drip bags, beans, and pure coffee extract. Bean Brothers, well-known among coffee enthusiasts, sells coffee online and offer coffee subscription.

While writing this blog, I discovered that Bean Brothers originally existed as a website rather than a coffee shop. It began as a coffee subscription service with a simple website that sent customers samples of different roasts regularly.

The people behind this establishment have a lot of passion for coffee, and it shows in every detail. The coffee just tastes better.

Bean Brothers specializes in premium coffee beans, which may be used to make both pour-over and espresso beverages. The Americano is a little on the expensive side, but it tastes great. (to-go gets a 2,500 won discount)

The seat at the bar on the first floor is ideal for getting the full flavor of the coffee as quickly as possible.

 

Spacious first floor

The cafe is huge and has plenty of seating, but it's constantly busy, especially on the weekends. There are always a lot of people here using their laptops because it is a large cafe, which is unusual in the area around Hapjeong Station.

Both sides have a duplex structure, and the second story is somewhat low.

The upper-level seating was pleasantly surprising in that it was much more comfortable than I had anticipated. A calm and comfortable spot, perfect for sipping my coffee.

We ordered two Americanos, one with their signature blend “Malt”, and another with their representative blend "Black Suit". The reverse of the card tells you all about the beans' history and origins in great detail.

 

Malt Blend is a blend that brings out the nutty taste of grains. The blend combines the nutty flavor of Brazil with the sweet flavor of Colombia. It was perfect for my palate because of my fondness for nutty flavors.

Black Suit Blend is what you can feel the sweet flavor. It has a rich sweetness and comes in a wide range of tastes.

 

Bean Brothers (Hapjeong) is the place to go if you're looking for a coffee shop near Hongdae or Hapjeong Station, or if you simply want to unwind in a charmingly retro atmosphere.
