Bogeon-og (with bulgogi)

Tucked away in an alley near Gwangjang Market, Bogeon-og (Euljiro, Seoul) is a beloved restaurant with a history dating back to the 1970s.

Known for its Seoul-style Bulgogi, this eatery is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, offering a lively atmosphere and a menu full of classic Korean dishes.

The restaurant was packed when we arrived, but after a short 10-minute wait, we were seated. The vibe was bustling and cheerful, with diners enjoying hearty meals paired with drinks. The restaurant also has seating on the second floor, adding to its capacity to welcome groups and gatherings.

While Seoul-style Bulgogi was our main order, other tables featured tempting dishes like Yukhoe Bibimbap (raw beef mixed with rice), Yukhoe (raw beef), Samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), and Kimchi-jjigae (kimchi stew).

The Bulgogi was cooked on the grill at the table, and the staff warned us not to overcook the beef to keep it tender. The meat was perfectly seasoned and paired beautifully with the provided perilla leaves, mushrooms, peppers, and other Banchan (side dish( to create a flavorful Ssam (Korean-style wrap).

We added Somyeon (noodles) when we were almost done with the bulgogi.

Last, we made fried rice with vegetables, sliced green onion kimchi, and the remaining sauce, a satisfying and delightful conclusion to the meal.

For 66,000 won, we enjoyed 3 Bulgogi, 1 Soju, 1 beer, 1 bowl of rice, and 1 Somyeon.

This felt like great value, especially compared to other popular Bulgogi spots like Woo-lae-ok, where prices are significantly higher.

The meal at Bogeon-og was not only delicious but also memorable for the restaurant's lively and nostalgic ambiance. After dining there, I discovered that the area near Euljiro 4-ga Station is home to many other highly-rated restaurants worth exploring.
