Eulji sujebi
Located near Exit 8 of Euljiro 3-ga Station, Eulji Sujebi (Euljiro, Seoul) is a hidden gem serving hearty Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup) and other comforting Korean dishes.
Though a bit tricky to locate, this rustic eatery is well worth the effort, offering a homely vibe, generous portions, and delicious flavors that make it a standout lunch spot in the bustling Euljiro area.
The interior of Eulji Sujebi has the charm of a cozy, rustic home. While the space is roomy, it fills up quickly, a testament to the restaurant's popularity. With its no-frills decor and lively atmosphere, the eatery feels welcoming, much like visiting an old friend’s home for a meal.
Menu
The restaurant keeps its menu focused, offering classic dishes like Sujebi (hand pulled dough soup, Kong Guksu (cold bean noodles), and Yeolmu Guksu (young radish noodles). The limited options highlight their dedication to perfecting these dishes. Though I visited in cooler weather, the summer noodle dishes are already on my list for a return trip.
Side dish
One of the highlights of dining here is the side dishes. The restaurant serves two types of kimchi, including a tangy and refreshing Yeolmu kimchi, which hints at how flavorful their Yeolmu Bibimbap and Yeolmu Guksu must be. The side dishes taste homemade, bursting with freshness and complementing the main dishes perfectly.
Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup) 9,000 won (x 2)
The Sujebi comes in a generously sized bowl, making it ideal for sharing. Packed with large oysters, shrimp, zucchini, carrots, and hand-pulled dough pieces, the dish is a seafood lover’s dream. The broth is rich, velvety, and perfectly seasoned, with just the right kick of pepper to enhance the flavors.
The hearty soup is perfect for pairing with Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) on a chilly evening. The abundance of oysters adds a luxurious touch, and the dish goes beautifully with the tangy kimchi.
Kimchi Jeon 11,000 won
The Kimchi Jeon (Korean style pancake) comes in two generously sized pieces, making it a great dish to share. While the flavor is average, the large portion size makes it a good value, especially when paired with the Sujebi. For a group of three, I’d recommend ordering two Sujebi and one Jeon for a balanced meal.
A Second Visit: Potato Pancakes and More
On my next visit, I brought five coworkers, allowing us to try additional dishes like the Gamja Jeon (Potato Pancake). The restaurant offers a half-and-half option, combining one Kimchi Pancake and one Potato Pancake, which are thick, hearty, and satisfying.
As expected, the Sujebi was excellent, and everyone in our group enjoyed the meal, leaving me feeling proud to have introduced them to this spot.
For under 10,000 won per person, Eulji Sujebi delivers incredible value, with hearty portions and fresh flavors that are hard to come by in Seoul. The warm and light soup is perfect for chilly days, though I suspect it will be just as enjoyable in warmer weather.
The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. Whether you’re an office worker looking for a quick, affordable lunch or simply craving a comforting bowl of Sujebi, Eulji Sujebi comes highly recommended.
