Eomuljeon Chung (Hannam store)
To celebrate my wife's birthday, we went to "Eomuljeon Chung" in Hannam-dong.
Because birthdays are special, I always look for tasty places to celebrate. My wife and I don't eat a lot, though, so we don't like going to places like buffets. Even at omakase places, my wife and I often can't finish our food because she's not a big eater.
Still, we thought omakase would be better, so we went to Eomuljeonchung, a seafood omakase restaurant. Since we had already tried the sushi omakase and the Korean beef omakase, we chose the seafood omakase.
From Hangangjin Station, the restaurant is a little distance away. It still takes work to find the entrance, even after getting to the building's front. The entrance can be found on the second level, and you can reach it by ringing the bell beside the parking lot on the ground floor.
Menu
The only thing on the menu is "I leave it up to you" for 89,000 won per person. We added Korean beef and truffles for 30,000 won because my wife wanted that instead of Roast duck.
We were led to a nice window seat. Many vehicles were making their way home from work.
Appetizer
It has the appearance of ice cream, but it is not something sweet. The filling is actually a creamy monkfish liver served on a little cone. Also, a drink, consisting of alcohol, is offered in a charming glass.
Barley soybean paste and cabbage
One of my favorite. The flavor was so good that I had to refill it twice.
Ilpoom Jinro Soju 40,000 won
It was a pleasant day, so we decided to get a drink. The high-end soju, such as Ilpoom Jinro which I normally wouldn't dare afford, nonetheless feels surprisingly affordable when I visit an expensive omakase restaurant like here.
#1 Bomnamul Naengchae
The cold vegetables taste great on their own, but when they were served with the cooked webfoot octopus, they were out of this world. And the sauce was especially tasty.
#2 Modeum Hoe (Seasonal Sashimi)
Although the Sashimi was tasty, the Dureup Namul (Fatsia Sprout Veggie) was the dish that stuck with me the most. An absolutely mouthwatering Dureup Namul (fatsia sprout veggie) it was.
#3 Tongyeong Hanchi (Grilled squid)
There was nothing particularly memorable about this dish.
#4 Cold pasta with Goseong Dansaewoo (shrimp)
Unexpectedly, I loved this dish.
#5 Seafood Samhap
The chef brought it to the table for a little presentation before returning it to the kitchen for cooking.
Since this is a flavor that everyone is familiar with, I really don't think any explanation is necessary.
#6 Dodari Ssug-guk (Fish Mugwort Soup)
I thought I had almost completely cured my picky eating habits, but I still can't eat mugwort.
#7 Namhae Samchi (Mackerel fish)
As expected, it was very delicious. It pairs nicely with rice.
#8 Hanwoo (Korean beef) & Truffles
The original menu had roast duck, but we paid extra and got this Hanwoo (Korean beef) instead. I loved the well-cooked beef and the thickly sliced truffles.
When I usually pick a menu item that says "truffle," I always end up with food that only smells like truffle. Whereas, this was nice to try food that actually had truffles in it, and I felt like I was treating myself to something special.
#9 Shrimp Burger
Seriously, this burger was so good. Unfortunately, this shot doesn't really show how good the food was.
You can see a thick, tasty shrimp patty when you cut it in half. The shrimp burgers I've had so far weren't really burgers.
#10 Honey Croffle and Strawberries
Eomuljeon Chung was an exceptionally well-kept restaurant. It seemed more like they were offering food that could be paired with drinks than a restaurant focusing on meals. Even if the food is really excellent, this location might not be for you if you do not like alcoholic beverages.
