Eomuljeon Chung (Hannam store)
To celebrate my wife's birthday, we chose Eomuljeon Chung (Hannam, Seoul), a seafood omakase restaurant in Hannam. Since buffets or large meals aren't ideal for us, omakase seemed like the perfect option, especially as we've previously enjoyed sushi and Korean beef omakase experiences. This time, seafood omakase felt like a great choice.
The restaurant is a bit tricky to locate. From Hangangjin Station, you need to head to the building's front, find the entrance on the second level, and ring a bell near the parking lot to access it.
Menu
The menu is simple: an omakase experience priced at 89,000 won per person. Since my wife wasn’t keen on the roast duck included in the menu, we opted for a Korean beef and truffle upgrade for an additional 30,000 won.
Appetizer
A unique start: creamy monkfish liver served in a mini cone, paired with a charming glass of alcohol. It looked like ice cream but had a delightful savory twist.
Barley soybean paste and cabbage
One of my favorites. The flavor was so exceptional that I asked for refills twice!
Ilpoom Jinro Soju 40,000 won
As it was a special day, we indulged in this premium soju. High-end soju feels much more reasonable when paired with an elegant omakase experience like this.
#1 Bomnamul Naengchae
Cold vegetables paired with cooked webfoot octopus, simple yet exquisite. The sauce elevated the dish to a whole new level.
#2 Modeum Hoe (Seasonal Sashimi)
While the sashimi was excellent, the standout here was the Dureup Namul (Fatsia sprout veggie) incredibly flavorful and memorable.
#3 Tongyeong Hanchi (Grilled squid)
Though well-prepared, it didn’t leave a lasting impression.
#4 Cold pasta with Goseong Dansaewoo (shrimp)
A delightful surprise! The combination of flavors worked perfectly, making it one of my favorites.
#5 Seafood Samhap
The chef presented this before cooking it, showcasing the beautiful arrangement of ingredients. Familiar flavors, but delicious nonetheless.
#6 Dodari Ssug-guk (Fish Mugwort Soup)
I tried my best, but mugwort is still not for me.
#7 Namhae Samchi (Mackerel fish)
Perfectly cooked mackerel with rice, a classic combination done exceptionally well.
#8 Hanwoo (Korean beef) & Truffles
We upgraded from the roast duck to this beef dish, and it was worth it. The Korean beef was tender and perfectly cooked, while the truffles were generously sliced, adding an indulgent richness. Unlike many dishes that only smell of truffles, this actually delivered on taste.
#9 Shrimp Burger
This dish was a revelation. The shrimp patty was thick, juicy, and packed with flavor. A true shrimp burger, unlike others I’ve tried before.
#10 Honey Croffle and Strawberries
A sweet and satisfying end to the meal.
Eomuljeon Chung offers a well-curated omakase experience, focusing on dishes that pair beautifully with alcoholic beverages. The food was outstanding, and the restaurant was impeccably maintained.
However, if you’re not someone who enjoys pairing food with drinks, this place might not be the best fit for you. For us, it was a delightful and memorable way to celebrate a special occasion.
