On my family’s recommendation, I visited Poongnyeon Dakdoritang (Sinchon, Seoul) with friends for dinner.

The interior is spacious, making it a great spot for groups. When we arrived just after their break, the restaurant was quiet, providing a relaxed atmosphere.

Poongnyeon Dakdoritang specializes in one dish: Dakdoritang (spicy chicken stew). We ordered a large portion of Dakdoritang along with extra ramyeon (instant noodles).

While Jjolmyeon (chewy noodles) is a popular addition here, I opted for Ramyeon instead since it’s my personal preference.

The only side dish served is Kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and it deserves a special mention. I’m not usually a fan of kimchi, but this one was so flavorful that I asked for an extra one.

The stew arrived ready to eat, but we let it boil a little longer to enhance the flavors. The chicken and potatoes were tender and soaked in the flavorful broth. Once the broth reached its peak, we added the ramyeon, which complemented the dish beautifully.

Chicken stew and ramyeon are a match made in heaven, and the slightly spicy, savory broth paired perfectly with the noodles.

Bokkeumbap (Fried Rice)  2,000 won * 2ea

After finishing most of the stew, we ordered two portions of fried rice, a must-have dessert in Korean meals. The fried rice, rich with sesame oil and perfectly seasoned, was incredible. We scraped up every last bit, including the scorched rice at the bottom of the pot, which added a delightful crunch.

Poongnyeon Dakdoritang offers a simple but well-executed menu with delicious chicken stew and fried rice. If you’re in Sinchon and craving authentic Korean cuisine, this restaurant is highly recommended.
