Poongnyeon Dakdoritang (sinchon store)
On my family's recommendation, I went to Poongnyeon Dakdoritang for dinner with my friends.
A picture of a popular restaurant TV show greets us on the way up to the store.
Poongnyeon Dakdoritang is relatively spacious on the inside, thus groups of people can visit together. There were no customers when we arrived, as it was just after the break.
Menu
As an authentic Korean chicken stew restaurant, there is only one dish on the menu: Dakdoritang (spicy chicken stew).
We got a large size of Dakdoritang with extra Ramyeon (instant noodles). Jjolmyeon noodles are popular here, but I'm not a fan of it, so I opted for ramen instead.
No sides except Kkakdugi (radish kimchi). You won't believe how tasty even these Kkakdugi are.
I don't usually eat kimchi when I go to a restaurant, but this one was so good that the staff finally brought me another bowl.
The owner was especially nice since he handed me a hair tie. My hair was long and unpleasant since it kept falling into my face, so I was touched when the owner asked if I needed a hair tie.
Dakdoritang (large) 39,000 won
I was hungry when the food arrived and was about to eat it, but my friends stopped me.
The stew was ready to eat, but we boiled it for a while longer to bring out its full flavor.
Before diving into the soup, I tried some potatoes and chicken; they were both so tender and flavorful.
We put in the instant noodles and boiled it until the noodles were done. As we all know, chicken stew goes really well with Ramyeon. Overall, I was pleased as the broth wasn't overly spicy and complemented the noodles nicely.
Bokkeumbap (Fried Rice) 2,000 won * 2ea
Fried rice, often known as a dessert for Koreans.
When we were nearly finished with the stew, we asked for two portions of fried rice. The fried rice with rich sesame oil flavor was incredible. Along with my buddies, we finished all the fried rice and even the scorched rice on the bottom of the pod.
Poongnyeon Dakdoritang in Sinchon serves delicious chicken stew and fried rice, so if you're in the mood for Korean cuisine like I am, you should definitely go there.
