Haengjin

Haengjin

Even my favorite YouTube channel "@whateverplay," featured Haengjin (Mangwon, Seoul), a cozy spot that’s famous for its Korean barbecue.

Intrigued by the video, I decided to visit. Arriving a little after 5 pm, I wasn’t surprised to find the place already bustling with diners.

Naengsam (frozen samgyeopsal)  15,000 won ( x 3 servings)

Naengsam (frozen pork belly) looked absolutely fresh and stunning. It immediately reminded me of childhood meals when we often enjoyed this style of pork belly at home.

The cooking process is straightforward but satisfying. As the meat starts to brown slightly, seasoning it with just a touch of pepper brings out its flavor beautifully.

Gochujang Jjigae  9,000 won (jjolmyeon noodles +1,000 won)

This dish came highly recommended in the @whateverplay video. The addition of Jjolmyeonsari (noodles) to the spicy red chili paste soup was an absolute game-changer.

Another must-try combination is mixing in some rice with the remaining broth. The rich, spicy flavors soak into the rice perfectly, creating an indulgent treat that’s impossible to resist.

Bibim noodles  7,000 won

The Bibim Noodles were another hit. They were mixed with kimchi, creating a bold and tangy flavor profile. I tried wrapping the meat in the noodles, adding a piece of kimchi on top, and eating it all in one bite. The combination of textures and flavors was absolutely mouthwatering!

Fried rice 3,000 won

Even though we were both stuffed after all the food, we just couldn’t skip the fried rice. It’s the quintessential “Korean dessert” following a barbecue meal. As expected, it didn’t disappoint. There’s something so satisfying about ending a meal with sizzling rice, infused with the flavors of the grill.

I’ve heard that the pork rind here is incredible, so I’ll definitely make a note to try it next time.

As anticipated, Haengjin lived up to its reputation. The ambiance, the food, and the nostalgic flavors of frozen pork belly made it a memorable experience.
