Imun Seolleongtang (Seolnongtang)
Imun Seolleongtang (Since 1904), a renowned Korean restaurant featured in the Michelin Guide, is conveniently located near Jonggak Station in downtown Seoul.
At first glance, the sign might be a bit confusing as it reads “Seolnongtang” instead of “Seolleongtang,” but rest assured they both refer to the same comforting dish.
Established in 1904, Imun Seolnongtang is one of Seoul’s oldest eateries, boasting more than 120 years of history. This long-standing restaurant is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic taste of Korea.
The interior is incredibly spacious, making it an excellent choice for families and large groups.
Menu
Seolnongtang (Selleongtang; Ox Bone Soup) 14,000 won
Imun Seolnongtang’s signature dish is prepared by boiling ox bones for hours, resulting in a rich, milky broth. The soup is made without artificial flavoring, so it may initially taste mild, but its delicate, wholesome flavor is what makes it truly special.
Served in the “Toryeom” style, the rice is mixed directly into the soup. If you prefer your rice served separately, simply let the staff know when ordering. The soup also includes thin noodles, which is a thoughtful addition that enhances the dish.
To personalize your Seolleongtang, you can add green onions and season it with salt to your taste. For me, this hot, comforting soup is the perfect meal on a chilly winter day.
With your meal, you’ll receive kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi). What sets Imun Seolnongtang apart is that you can help yourself to as much kimchi or kkakdugi as you like from the container on your table.
When it comes to Gukbap (Korean hotpot soup with rice), the quality of the kimchi and kkakdugi can elevate the experience, and the ones here are absolutely delicious.
Take a spoonful of the savory soup, add a bite of the tangy kimchi or kkakdugi, and enjoy an explosion of flavors. The beef in the soup is perfectly tender and full of flavor, adding a satisfying heartiness to the meal.
If you’re looking for a warm, hearty Korean dish, Imun Seolnongtang is the place to go. The mild yet flavorful Seolleongtang, paired with their incredible kimchi, makes for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Conveniently located near Jonggak Station, this historic eatery is a must-try for anyone visiting Seoul.
