For our Saturday family lunch, we all met at Jobakjip (Mapo, Seoul) for some delicious Dwaejigalbi (grilled pork ribs). This place holds a special place in my heart, as our family used to frequent it when I was a child. Even though it's been over ten years, the restaurant remains in the same spot and continues to serve up great food.

The restaurant opens at 11:30 am, but I’ve heard there’s usually a short wait on weekends, so we made sure to arrive right when it opened. It filled up quickly, and within 15 minutes, the place was packed. If you plan on visiting, it’s best to arrive early or be prepared for a short wait.

When we sat down, the first thing brought to the table was Dongchimi noodles, which were refreshing and tasty.

The quality of the pork ribs and the seasoned green onions served alongside the meat were fantastic.

If you’d like to bring your own drinks, corkage is available for 10,000 won per bottle. However, the restaurant also offers a nice selection of wines at reasonable prices, so there’s plenty of variety to choose from.

Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew)  1,000 won

As a child, my family was always served a complimentary bowl of Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), which we would enjoy with rice and the grilled meat. Now, you have to order it on the side, but it’s still just as delicious. The radish kimchi served with the stew is exceptional and a perfect complement.

The combination of Dwaejigalbi and Dongchimi noodles is a signature dish at Jobakjip. The fresh and light noodles pair wonderfully with the rich and savory grilled pork ribs, creating a balanced and satisfying meal.

Sikhye (Traditional sweet Korean rice beverage)

To finish off the meal, they serve Sikhye, a sweet dessert drink that helps with digestion. We were also able to order the Sikhye for takeout, which several other diners did.

When you arrive at Jobakjip, simply put your name on the waiting list, and the staff will call you when your table is ready. There's no formal waiting system, so be sure to keep an ear out. One helpful tip: the restaurant has an annex next door, so if you're waiting for a table, you can add your name to both waiting lists and go to whichever one calls you first.

Jobakjip remains a beloved spot for Dwaejigalbi, bringing together great food, warm service, and nostalgic memories. Whether you're a longtime patron or a first-timer, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy a traditional Korean barbecue meal. Highly recommend it if you're in the Mapo area!
