Plaza Son Kalguksu
This small eatery Plaza Son Kalguksu (Songpa, Seoul) marked by its weathered signage, is a true classic in Seoul, specializing in Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles).
Its reputation precedes it, with many mentioning the usual long lines. Luckily, when I visited, there was no line, though the restaurant was packed the entire time I was there.

Menu

The menu features Kalguksu, Sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup), Kong-guksu (cold soybean noodle soup, available only in summer), and Gullim Mandu (rolled dumplings). Sujebi is served after 3 pm, so plan accordingly!
Gullim Mandu (dumpling) 10,000 won

For 10,000 won, you get six generously sized dumplings. While the price might seem steep, the size and flavor make it worth it.

The dumplings were packed with a well-seasoned filling, so there was no need for soy sauce. They were incredibly flavorful on their own. The portion was larger than I expected, so I ended up packing the extras to take home.

The Kalguksu featured chewy, satisfying noodles in a rich, flavorful broth. It’s hard to say whether the noodles were made fresh to order, but they arrived a bit later than expected, perhaps a sign of their authenticity.
For those who like a kick, extra Daedaegi (spicy sauce) is available, but be cautious it made the dish a bit saltier rather than spicier.
The Sujebi was just as delightful, with the same rich broth and perfectly chewy dough pieces. This dish is comforting and hearty, perfect for a satisfying meal.
his hidden gem in Garak-dong is a must-visit for those craving authentic, hearty Korean noodle dishes. Whether you’re in the mood for Kalguksu, Sujebi, or their famous Gullim Mandu, this eatery won’t disappoint.
