Tteoksan (anguk store)

Tteoksan is a Tteokbokki eatery, famous for its Tteokbokki made with special Garae-tteok (long and thicker cylindrical rice cakes). This eatery expanded to Anguk-dong and the Galleria Department Store after its success in the Eunpyeong-gu district.

You can easily walk there from Anguk Station (Exit 2).

I waited outside till it opened at 11:30 in the morning. You may have to wait a little if you choose to dine inside because the restaurant can only accommodate two groups at a time.

Tteokbokki, Twigim (fried dish), Sundae, Eomug-tang (fish cake soup), small Kimbap and etc.

The boiling fish cake soup looked really mouthwatering. If you order Eomug-tang (fish cake soup), the soup might have three varieties of fish cakes and a tofu pouch.

As soon as you go inside, this massive Gochujang (red chili paste) will greet you. That gochujang is most likely used to make Tteokbokki, but its vibrant red hue suggests it would be delicious on its own with rice.

It appears that this type of Sinseollo is used to serve Twigim (fried dish). As if it were the cuisine of the ancient royal palace.

The seasonings in Tteokbokki really shine when you boil them for a long time. I'm curious to try it with thicker Garae-tteok to see whether it has a chewier texture!

Even though it's Bunsik (Korean snack food), the presentation is superb.

Soy sauce is for dipping fish cakes and mustard sauce for dipping vegetable kimbap; there are numerous sauces, including ssamjang and salt for Sundae.

I loved the chewy texture and flavor of the Tteokbokki. To enjoy the Sundae, I dipped it in a variety of flavorful sauces like Ssamjang, salt, and Tteokbokki sauce. Just the way I like it.

Although there is a wait before it opens at 11:30 (maybe because Anguk-dong is a commercial district), the line moves swiftly once the store opens.

I would suggest this eatery to anyone visiting Anguk-dong who is craving chewy Tteokbokki.
