Sancheong Sutbul Garden
In the heart of Magok Seoul, a brand-new barbecue restaurant with an impressive reputation has opened its doors, Sancheong Sutbul Garden. Specializing in authentic grilled black pork from Jirisan Mountain, this restaurant offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience that combines exceptional flavors with a nostalgic atmosphere.
Although the restaurant is new, its interior was purposefully designed to appear rustic and weathered, giving it an air of familiarity and timelessness. As we arrived, we noticed a long line of eager customers.
Inside, the tall ceilings and spacious layout immediately caught my attention. The ambiance transported me back to the barbecue restaurants in Seoul’s suburbs that my family used to frequent during my childhood.
One standout feature is the open kitchen on one side of the restaurant, where you can see the meticulous preparation of meat and other dishes. This gives the space a modern yet warm vibe, unlike any typical barbecue restaurant in Seoul.
Sancheong Sutbul Garden is the brainchild of Jeong Dong-Woo and Sekwang Green Food Ltd., the team behind some of Seoul’s most renowned restaurants, including Segwang Yangdaechang, Gyodae Eacheung-jib, Chunggiwa Town, and Mongtan.
Menu
We ordered Assorted pork, Gochujang pork, and Special assorted pork, as well as the Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and fried rice.
To pair with our meal, we enjoyed: one Sancheong Highball, one Hadong Plum Wine, and a bottle of Jirisan Yakju Solsongju.
The dining setup was truly unique. Stone plates were arranged around a central charcoal fire pit, creating a retro and cozy atmosphere.
Side dish
For side dishes, Pajeoli (green onion), Gat-kimchi, Pickled cucumber/radish, and potato salad.
Each person will have one serving of Dongchimi (white kimchi in cold broth), three types of pickled vegetables, cod roe sauce, wasabi, and salt.
Assorted Pork Plate 58,000 won (500g)
The pork served here comes from black pigs raised in the pristine environment of Mount Jiri.
Grilling green onion alongside the pork and layering it on top added an incredible depth of flavor.
We began with just salt to savor the natural flavor of the juicy, tender pork.
You can enjoy pork in various combinations.
Special Assorted Pork 21,000 won (150g)
Includes two different cuts of pork cut. Hangjeongsal (left), and Deolmisal (right)
The Deolmisal was a personal favorite due to its wonderfully chewy texture.
Pair the pork with cod roe sauce, wasabi, or the aromatic Dalrae-jangajji (wild chive pickles) for an explosion of flavors.
Gochujang Marinated Pork 18,000 won (160g)
The Gochujang seasoning was sprinkled over the raw meat before grilling, enhancing its flavor.
The spicy, smoky aroma paired perfectly with the meat, and dipping it into the red sauce made it even better.
Solsongju (Jirisan Yakju)
A refreshing and clean-tasting rice wine that paired beautifully with the meal.
Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) 8,000 won
Fried rice 10,000 won
A quintessential addition to Korean barbecue, the fried rice was served in a mini cauldron lid, topped with two fried eggs. Finely chopped pork and kimchi made it exceptionally flavorful and satisfying.
Sancheong Sutbul Garden is not just another barbecue restaurant, it’s an experience. From the high-quality black pork to the retro-inspired ambiance, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to deliver something truly special.
If you’re looking for a unique barbecue spot in Seoul, don’t miss Sancheong Sutbul Garden. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia, flavor, and modern dining.
