Seomjip (Yongsan)
I recently revisited Seomjip (Yongsan, Seoul), a well-known Korean restaurant near Yongsan Station, and once again, it did not disappoint.
Known for its authentic dishes and excellent side dishes, this is a spot I highly recommend, especially for those looking to share a variety of flavorful options.
Seomjip (Annex building)
I dined in the Annex building, which, while smaller than the Main Building, is still great for group dining.
Menu
The cuisine is traditional Korean, and dishes can be on the pricier side, so sharing is the best approach.
The side dishes are so good, they could easily complement a bowl of rice on their own. Be aware that extra servings of specific side dishes (like Pogi kimchi, salted oysters, or stews) cost 4,000 won each.
Among the side dishes, the pickled pollack roe is a must-try!
Salm-eun dwaejigogi & Eoli-guljeot 23,000 won per serving (minimum 2 servings)
Thickly boiled pork served with salted baby oysters and flavorful kimchi. The pork was tender, but the fatty parts were a bit excessive for my taste.
The salted pollack roe paired perfectly with the pork, balancing the flavors and masking any potential "porky" smell.
Seomjip Yukjeon 28,000 won
Thinly sliced beef, lightly coated in flour and egg, then pan-fried. Not overly greasy, with the ideal thickness.
Served with soy sauce that beautifully complements the dish. This remains one of the best Yukjeon I've ever had!
Crab Maeun-tang (Stew) 49,000 won (for 2)
A spicy red broth filled with large crabs.
Initially, the soup tasted bland, but as it simmered longer, the flavors intensified thanks to the crabs. However, it wasn’t as exceptional as my first visit, leaving me slightly disappointed this time
Ganjang Gejang (soy marinated raw crab) 39,000 won (1 Serving)
Whole crab with roe marinated in soy sauce. Unlike other soy-marinated crabs, it wasn’t overly salty or fishy. The roe over white rice is simply divine, an unbeatable combination!
Seomjip offers an authentic Korean dining experience with standout side dishes and expertly prepared mains. While some dishes didn’t quite meet my high expectations this time, the Yukjeon and Ganjang Gejang were absolute highlights.
You’ll find multiple locations nearby, including Seomjip No. 3.
