Seongwon Sikdang (euljiro)
Located between Euljiro 3-ga and 4-ga near Sae-un Shopping Center and Sam-poong Shopping Center, Seongwon Sikdang (Euljiro, Seoul) is one of many iconic eateries in this bustling district of Seoul.
Known for its LA beef ribs grilled on charcoal, the restaurant has recently gained popularity among younger crowds and has even been featured on television.
Today, I met up with Japanese friends for drinks and an authentic Korean dining experience. Despite arriving early, the place was already lively, with diners enjoying Soju and grilled ribs.
Menu
The restaurant’s signature dish is LA Galbi (thinly sliced, marinated beef ribs), priced at 15,000 won per serving.
Also, you can find dishes like Stir-fried squid or pork (20,000won), Grilled spam, and Egg rolls on the menus of local Euljiro bars.
Lunch specials are also available at reasonable prices during the day.
Side dish
Onion sauce, four side dishes, and radish kimchi are provided. The quality of the side dishes reflects the restaurant’s Nopo (long-standing local eatery) status.
LA Galbi 15,000 won (x3 servings)
We ordered three portions to ensure enough for three people. Unlike thick-cut ribs, the LA Galbi here is thinly sliced, making it easy to eat and enjoy the rich seasoning.
The ribs were grilled to perfection on a charcoal grill outside, giving them a smoky, slightly crispy edge.
While the Galbi pairs well with alcohol, I personally think it would shine even more when paired with a simple bowl of rice.
Noodles with stir-fried squid 20,000 won
The squid was tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice to complement the noodles. Mixing the two created a harmonious balance of textures and flavors, perfect alongside our drinks.
We were pleasantly surprised by a complimentary side of hot bean sprout soup, a soothing addition to the meal.
Seongwon Sikdang’s LA Galbi and stir-fried squid with noodles are undeniably delicious and showcase the traditional flavors of Korean BBQ and drinking culture.
However, the food is great, but with so many outstanding eateries in Euljiro, this might not be worth a dedicated visit unless you're already in the area. And the service wasn’t particularly warm or welcoming.
Still, for those looking to enjoy well-seasoned Galbi and classic Korean sides in a nostalgic setting, Seongwon Sikdang is a solid choice.
