Seongwon Sikdang (euljiro)
Many historic local eateries can be found in Euljiro, a district in Seoul. Specifically, between Euljiro 3-ga and 4-ga, you'll find a lot of well-known, long-standing Korean eateries close to Sae-un Shopping Center and Sam-poong Shopping Center.
Today, I met up with Japanese friends for a drink in Euljiro.
Recently, restaurants clustered beneath the shopping center bridge have gained popularity among the younger generation.
This Seongwon Sikdang in Euljiro is one such eatery that has been highlighted on television. LA ribs grilled on a charcoal grill outside the restaurant are the house specialty at this eatery.
Despite my early arrival after work, I could see a lot of diners who had already finished their soju (alcoholic beverages), thus it appears to be a popular spot for drinking.
Likely frequented by numerous well-known celebs as well.
Menu
The first minimum order is two servings of their signature LA Galbi, which costs 15,000 won per serving. Also, you can find dishes like stir-fried squid or pork, grilled spam, and egg rolls on the menus of local Euljiro bars. The lunch menu is also available at a reasonable price around lunchtime.
Side dish
Onion sauce, four side dishes, and radish kimchi are provided as the side dish. As one would expect from a Nopo (historical local restaurant), the side dishes were quite nice.
I was the first to arrive, so I sat with a beer and some side as I awaited the rest of my party.
LA Galbi 15,000 won (x3 servings)
They suggested ordering three portions upfront since they believed two would be insufficient for three people, so we ended up with three portions of LA Galbi instead of two and other dishes.
Noodles with stir-fried squid 20,000 won
Mix the two for an even more delicious flavor.
Thinly sliced delectable ribs, not thick ribs.
The thin thickness isn't an issue with galbi because you eat it for its excellent seasoning, so you don't really need to chew much when you put it in your mouth. It tasted delicious with nice crunchiness.
In my opinion, though, this Galbi would pair better with rice as a side than with alcoholic beverages. It seems more reasonable to me to eat lunch at lunchtime.
The combination of stir-fried squid and noodles was also great. We enjoyed the spicy flavor with our drinks.
On occasion, they kindly provided us with a side of hot bean sprout soup. However, the service was not as friendly as expected.
While the food was delicious, I wouldn't recommend making the trip only for the meal. Because Euljiro is home to so many excellent eateries these days.
We moved to another local eatery for a second round called Jongno Bindaetteok. Pajeon (Korean-style pancake) and Gol-baengi noodles with makgeolli was just right to end up in a rainy weather.
